The only problem with that is that a LOT of story occurs in the "silent voice-bubble" scenes between cutscenes...
It may encourage you to know that in terms of playability, KH2 is much better than KH1 in a lot of ways. Combat's easier/more intuitive, controls respond better, and the camera emphatically DOES NOT SUCK. Also, the gummi ship sequences have magically become fun. So, you might actually like playing KH2. I think KH1 was better in a lot of ways, but KH2 dramatically improves on the first game's flaws.
(You should definitely watch the video summary of Chain of Memories, though.)
