Well, I mean... When I go to a panel, I'm sort of looking for stuff I didn't already know. That's the point, right? But this was just discussion of the "origins of yaoi, terminology, what's your favorite pairing?" variety. Which, I mean, was okay, if nothing else it was fun to hear the amused reaction to my first yaoi pairing, but. I was sort of hoping for, I dunno, discussion of new releases, comparison of the fandoms in America and Japan, or in America ten years ago as opposed to America now, maybe some showings... You know, interesting stuff.
But nope. Basic discussion and plugs for the yaoi con they're trying to get started up this June. (Which, while cool, wasn't entirely relevant to my interests. No way I'd be able to make it.)
Plus, I'm really a low-key fangirl, and your average yaoi panel is filled with shrieking fangirls. It was actually kind of embarrassing.
The most fun part was when one guy in the room asked what yaoi actually was, and two other guys went ahead and demonstrated. I'll admit it, that was awesome. At the same time I felt vaguely uncomfortable because then the whole panel was like DO IT AGAIN PLEEEAAASE and it was a little creepy. THEY MADE OUT FOR YOU ONCE AND IT WAS HOT. BE SATISFIED WITH THAT PLZ.
