Further chronicles of my insanity

Okay, so. We've got this raised-bed garden out back. It's full of millet.

Originally, we planted it as bunny food. But two of our rabbits have died since then, and the survivor doesn't like millet much. So there's just this big stand of millet, heavily seeded, drying slowly and looking ready to harvest.

I've been wanting to try making some kind of millet cake.

I've also been wanting to try using a mortar and pestle.

The natural result of this was that I had to go pick a stalk of millet, get out the mortar and pestle, separate the seeds from the stalk and blow off the chaff, and proceed to grind those tough little motherfuckers into flour.

It took a long time and was tedious and made my arms tired. And when I was done, it yielded a (predictably) pitiful amount of flour.

So of course I went out and picked three more!

Stay tuned for the results of the handmade midget millet dumplings.

How does one raise millet? Does it require a large plot? Anything I do is going to have to be in a flowerbox, but I'd be very interested in growing my own. I have two canaries and a diamond dove, and they go through the stuff like candy.
