Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum~
Also, I finally got to see PotC2 several days ago. My very belated reactions under the cut. :D
- Jack. Jack, Jack, Jack, how very awesome you are. And how insane your life. XD
And how very unlike Sora. I am certain now that whoever was writing that particular scene in KH2 had just written himself into a corner and had to turn the script in the next morning, so he half-assed something and prayed nobody would notice. Comparing Sora and Jack is the most nonsensical idea in the whole world.
- Okay, I liked Elizabeth in the first movie, but I really liked her here. Obviously Will has been giving her badassery lessons in the interim. Also, she needs to crossdress more often. *purr*
- Will somehow got an infusion of awesome. Bloom's acting is still a bit lackluster in parts, but he's clearly a bit more comfortable with the role of Will. And the character is a lot cooler this time around, more secure in himself and more, well, badass.
(If anyone in Pirates is like Sora, it's totally Will. XD He may lack the cheery optimism and take himself too seriously, but he has a LOT more in common with Sora than Jack does.He finally got a personality in his sequel, just like Sora did!)
- Bootstrap. Bootstrap, Bootstrap, BOOTSTRAP. ♥ I remember discussing how mind-numbingly awful it must have been to be undead and unkillable at the bottom of the ocean, so I was really glad they touched on that in this one. Poor guy.
- So, Jack's compass. He thought he wanted to find the key, but he was uncertain so the compass wouldn't point for him. I hope this matter of the uncertainty will be addressed in the third movie - why, exactly, did Jack not know what he wanted?
- The guys on the boat just NOT GETTING Elizabeth's cunningly-prepared message = love. XD Poor Elizabeth.
- What, exactly, was the point of the East India Trading Co. spices on the cannibal island?
- Given the time period, the relationship between Will and Elizabeth is actually really, really cool. Most men in that period probably wouldn't be likely to hand their fianceé a shotgun and entrust them with a critical task while showing utter faith in their ability to accomplish it.
- And on the topic of relationships... yeah. OT3. Especially with how even after he sees Elizabeth kissing him, Will is still ready to sail to the ends of the earth for Jack.
- I like how the movie only took itself so seriously and had no qualms about laughing at itself when it was funny. Like the scene with the mill wheel. XD
- Somewhere between the ravens pecking people's eyes out, the cannibals, the horrific crew of the Flying Dutchman, the disembodied still-beating heart, Elizabeth getting a guy at gunpoint, and Jack charging directly into the mouth of the Kraken, I kind of forgot I was watching a Disney movie.
Also, favorite lines:
- "I'm listening." *click* "... I'm listening intently."
- "It's the Bible! You get credit for tryin'!"
- "I've got a jar of di~rt~ I've got a jar of di~rt~ And guess what's inside it~"
- "Technically I was only a captain for two years, and I spent the next ten viciously mutinied upon." "Then you were a poor captain, but a captain nonetheless. After all, have you not been calling yourself, all these years, 'Captain Jack Sparrow'?" And the look on Jack's face.
Totally looking forward to the third movie. After the non-resolution of this one, I needs it, precious.
