Ways to irk a Lyssie, #1

You know something that really drives me nuts? Any time there's a promo for any given fantasy movie or game and it is described as "beyond imagination".

Because you know what? No. No it isn't. It is not beyond imagination because it exists, and therefore someone has imagined it. If it's supposed to be beyond the viewer's imagination, "beyond anything you've ever imagined", well, you're selling your audience awfully short. How do you know I haven't imagined something like this, or something grander? It also almost sounds like you're saying it's beyond the viewer's CAPABILITY for imagination, in which case congrats on insulting your whole target audience!

Just. Augh. Quit saying it's "beyond imagination" because IT'S NOT. IT IS NEVER BEYOND IMAGINATION, I DON'T CARE HOW GOOD IT IS. STOP IT. Find a new superlative to describe how awesome this new fantasy is, so I can stop twitching.

... I feel better now. XD

That always bothers me too. They're basically, in a roundabout way, though unintentionally, calling us creatively challenged.

They could certainly find another way to tell us how good their game is. Maybe just by saying "Our game is really good. Purchase it!" or something.

At least that isn't hidden behind smoke and mirrors.

Cliches! Bah.

Ha, I know what you mean. I was at AmVets with Mom and her friend last week (I got boots, a nifty jacket-type thing, and this awesome wooden triceratops. I need to take pictures of that thing. It is ridiculous. GO THRIFT STORES) and while browsing their selection of books, I came across a copy of Dune. Right on the back cover: something something "world beyond your imagination!" Graah.
