Spoiler-free? I think.

You know, I really think I've gotten a much better sense of Vincent's character from playing Dirge than from however the hell many playthroughs of FF7 I've done now.

He hasn't changed, he's still indisputably the Vincent we know and love from 7. It's just, now that he's the protagonist, his personality gets more of a chance to shine. It's still the same Vincent, just now we have a better view of him.

In particular, his sense of humor is really getting to stand out a lot better than it did in FF7. It makes me so gleeful that this game knows its characterization so well, right down to Vincent's dry, cynical wit. Oh, Square, thank you for showing me why I still have faith in you.

(And I'm starting to really like his English voice. Wonders never cease.)

Yes. I love that. It's desert-dry, and usually black, but he's got a sense of humor. It's a dimension to him beyond 'angst kitten,' and I love that it was kept.

(Given his sense of humor, I suspect that he's well aware of the absurdity of the swooping-around-in-a-cape-brooding thing, and just doesn't care, or even finds it amusing in a twisted sort of way. Seems like the kind of thing he would.)

I'm generally quite pleased with the characterizations. I don't feel that any of the characters I love were done badly by.

Well, if you compare her design in FF7 and Dirge, she seems to have had some sort of growth spurt since the game (and I'm not talking about blocky vs. ps2 XD;) so maybe she's just not used to long limbs...

As for the rest, wow, I'm totally clueless.
