*thumbsup* Are people *still* doing that? I mean, I know it was a big problem with the first game, but I thought by the second game it'd be better. Especially since Kairi was WAY COOL in kH2, and the game itself was pretty heavy on the beating you over the head with the ot3 stick. ^^;;
It is. I think my defining experience with it was in the Digimon fandom, where everyone in the English side was hating so bad on Davis/Daisuke. There were hate sites. I sort of mindlessly went along with it until one day I looked at one of the hate sites, and looked at it, and I thought, "you know, what the hell did he ever do to deserve this?" Daisuke is now one of my favorite characters, ever.
You really can't blame Kairi for what Riku did. It doesn't work. Riku's the one whose heart is a battleground, yo. I think he was using Kairi's condition as an excuse for his actions, more than anything.
I mean, Disney and Squeenix wouldn't have just crammed OT3 goodness down our throats without making it work, right? :DDD A stupid, horrible Kairi just kind of doesn't jive, without painting Riku and Sora with the same tarred brush. Why else would they be so close? And give everything for each other?

I'm still arguing with this fanit in the comments, though. >_<;; They're really getting on Kairi's case about her meeting with Axel (apparently choosing not to go with the creepy supernatural stalker in the black coat means you're just an unfriendly person), and the fact that she retreated at Hollow Bastion when Riku told her to instead of staying to help him. Despite the fact that, um, what was she going to do, and she was kind of in peril of her LIFE until Riku took control of the body back long enough to warn her, so staying would have been stupid, dangerous, and probably offensive to Riku besides. Logic plz.
They're claiming moral superiority to Kairi on that count, too. Gee. I'm glad to know you'd get yourself killed uselessly for a friend instead of beating a tactical retreat so you could stay alive to maybe HELP THEM LATER, I dunno.
One of the things I love about Kairi is that she's damned practical. As when she wanted to go with Sora to fight the big baddie in KH, but! When she recognized that she'd do nothing but get in the way, she agreed with Sora that she'd stay behind, even though she must have been damned miserable about it. I mean! *flails* That had a conversation that basically went:
K: I WANT TO FIGHT! >D S: ...Um. No. K: D: You mean. *sigh* I'd get in the way, huh? S: Uh, yeah. Sorry, but. Yeah. I can't worry about saving your ass too, now that I've finally got it back. K: All right, then I'll give you this WEAPON OF POWER to help you defeat our foes, and pray you come back safely! SAFELY, understand? S: Yes ma'am! <33
