fuyu | Art table WAHEY

So, I was going to mention this earlier: I got an art table at Anime Expo.

(Please, feel free to mentally insert as much jumping up and down and squealing as you wish here. Chances are it'll be more or less accurate.)

Of course, an art table needs art to sell! I've bandied about some ideas in my head, so here's a list of potential wares. I need feedback so I know what's a good idea, what's take-or-leave, and what's stupid; don't feel like setting up a proper poll, though, so I'll just leave it open to commentary. Please, share your thoughts.

Prints:

- Sora tarot card: The Sun
- Kairi tarot card: The Star
- Riku tarot card: The Moon

(the above three are a set; I take one to the table, I take them all)

- A crowd of Dancers dancing, probably all reaching for the sky/Kingdom Hearts; Demyx in the far back playing his sitar
- Roxas as a feudal samurai in armor, hopefully in a style reminiscent of Japanese paintings
- Mal Reynolds standing in front of Serenity, under its "head", looking up at the sky

Magnets:

My thought is to make these in clay, and pressed in bas-relief rather than just painted or printed on. They'll have a chibi figure of each character, with a pair of appropriate kanji making up part of the background.

- Ed Elric (kanji: ???)
- Sora (kanji: "kingdom")
- Cloud (kanji: "cloud" and "strife")
- Prince of All Cosmos (kanji: "katamari damashii")
- Mal (kanji: "firefly" and "serenity", or else "freedom")

Jewelry:

All items will incorporate varying numbers of beads and 1-3 origami stars, appropriately sealed with epoxy for durability.

- Necklaces
- Bracelets
- Earrings (clip and hook types)
- Pins

I think this will be about as much as I can reasonably get done before AniZona and AX. XD The magnets will be rather labor-intensive (making the molds, and then after casting, I'll have to paint them), so they may be the first thing to go if I get in a crunch.

So! Any thoughts? Suggestions? Things I should leave out? Things I should make sure to do?

Also, any lovely people going who would like to volunteer to run my table occasionally so I can take breaks to eat/go to a panel/attend a cosplay gathering? 8D

Wait, so....the magnets are molds of Kanji?

Oh - no, I guess I wasn't clear. They'll be little bas-relief plaques of character chibis, with the kanji off to the side of the character.

So, like, the Sora one would be a little chibi Sora looking cute, with the kanji for "kingdom" over his shoulder or something.

Oooh, the prints sound like a fantastic idea, though I'm really really excited about the jewelry. Post up pictures of them when you finish? ::would totally love to purchase one, but is in Japan. ;___;::

I've actually got one trial necklace put together, though the beads show up badly and the star isn't sealed yet. I was testing the model before I tried selling them in quantity.

I'm exhausted and heading to bed now, but tomorrow I'll swap in some brighter beads and take pictures, okay? :D

AWESOME. I bet they'll look gorgeous. The tarot cards are making me interested, too. I'd love to see Kairi as The Star.

Yup! I think you and I got browncoated at about the same time. I've got Firefly on the brain and I figured, there's got to be a fair number of browncoats who also come to Anime Expo. Enough to sell some Mal. I wanted to do the whole cast in magnets, but. uh. not feasible.

I don't know how accurate these three will be as cards, I'm just picking some of the basic ideas and impressions that I feel apply to the trio, but I hope they won't be too grossly wrong. (hee! I look forward to seeing how much it eats your brain XD)

Oh, thank you! I was hoping somebody would suggest kanji for Ed, 'cause I was stumped.

Ooh, the word for "regret" sounds a lot like "exchange". (Koukai vs. koukan.) They're both two kanji long, too... I might go with "exchange", actually.

There's a kanji for "katamari damashii"? I am edumacated. I always thought it was written in katakana... (Yet another PS2 game I have to play at some point!)

Well, there's a couple of kanji on the game cover, so I assume they say "katamari damashii". :D

Have you considered using Sculpey clay? It's not "real" clay 'cause it's synthetic, but it's durable, very easy to work with, and you can paint on it easily.

What were you planning on going to see that I'd be interested in, too? I haven't even looked at the schedule yet. Heck, I haven't even registered! I FAIL.

Oh, Sculpey is my default choice whenever I need to sculpt something; lately I've been changing my mind about that, because it's super heavy when it bakes. And I've had trouble in the past painting it. (Though that has more to do with me using metallic spray paint than anything, probably, but it makes me leery. I know sealants should be used, but I don't know what sealants are appropriate.)

I've been thinking about switching over to Model Magic for my prop-sculpting needs. Though heaviness might not be such a problem for the magnets.

Haha, I haven't looked at the schedule either. XD I have no idea about panels. But sure as the sun shines there'll be a Kingdom Hearts photoshoot, and I'm definitely going to that.

How loud is the convention center?

Because it would rock if you could set up a CD player with appropriate music to take to this thing to draw attention.
