A peek into Alyssa's brain.
As if anybody wanted to see what it's like in here.
My muses are apparently big fans of epics... below are all the epics I'd be working on, if they had their way.
FF5 - The original heroes - you know, the heroes whose "spirits rest in the Crystals", where you get jobs from... the original heroes fight and imprison Shinryuu, Bahamut's rogue sibling. This has the dubious honor of having the biggest cast of any idea I've ever had. I like the bard and the geomancer.
FF7 - Massive AU. Take everything to do with FF7, save the characters' basic personalities, and throw it all out the window. Now imagine that nearly every character is a fantasy/folklore/mythology creature. It centers around Cloud (one of the few humans in the cast) and Sephiroth the sylph... with guest appearances by such folks as Rufus the vampire, Vincent the werewolf, Reno and Nanaki the salamanders, Reeve the doppelganger, Cid the dragon, Yuffie the kitsune.... etc. I love almost all the concepts for this but there's no real plot and argh. I'd just write it as an original story if so many of the nifty concepts weren't kind of dependent on the characters being the FF7 characters... (For example, elementals like Sephiroth can't use their real names casually among mortals, so they have mundane spoken names. Sephiroth's mundane name is Zephyr, derived from his real name. And Cloud is speculated within the fic to be at least half sylph, thereby making his airlike name very appropriate. And so on. There's a lot of ideas that just lose their luster if they aren't applied to the FF7 characters.)
FF7 - Blood of the Planet. Sephiroth reincarnation fic, basically. Seth got this one started by gnawing on my brain until I agreed. He didn't just kind of lurk nicely in the wings, like all my other muses. No, he wanted this fic so bad he gnawed on my brain. And I'm at a point in the story that's rather important, and he's being very difficult to work with. Go figure.
I'm glad he did gnaw on my brain, though. I didn't want to write this story initially because I didn't feel it was very original (Sephiroth returns. WHEE. Never seen THAT before). But then he wouldn't leave me alone and I started writing and I'm actually very happy with the story so far. It needs editing, most of it is two years old, but overall I like it.
FFX - Muses? You know I HATE politics, social politics included. So why are you making this socio-political story idea so very fascinating?
Basically, it's about Guado. And Al Bhed. There was this Guado family living in Guadosalam, with a son and a daughter. The son was named Kei, the daughter Maria. I'm not sure what Kei was interested in, but Maria was quite the budding blitzer.
One day, Kei gathered up his courage and announced to his family that he was gay and in love with a Guado boy about his age named Lune. His family freaked and disowned him on the spot, because homosexuality is a major taboo in traditional Guado culture. Kei packs up his stuff and leaves to live with Lune. (Lune's an odd one, by the way; shunning the traditional Guado robes in favor of human clothes. Usually very tight and/or revealing human clothes.) Maria doesn't quite feel this is right, and says so. Her parents become very upset with her, and she never brings it up again.
So, a year or so later, Maria is thinking about going pro with her blitz. So she tries to get into the Guado Glories. She has the talent, she could do it. But because she failed to express disgust and revulsion at Kei's homosexuality, her own reputation is besmirched, and the Glories won't let her in. Simultaneously furious and terribly disheartened, Maria gives up blitz for the time being and just tries to get a job, any job. Nobody wants her. By this time, Maria is just entirely disgusted with the whole of her race, and leaves Guadosalam. She finally ends up getting a job at Rin's travel agency.
But alas, even open-minded Maria is not free of all prejudice. She, like most of the world, can't stand Al Bhed. She's somewhat bitter about having to work with them, and starts to really resent her people for driving her to this. (She could easily start to resent Kei for being gay in the first place; but instead, mostly just resents Guado culture for being so damned closed-minded. She isn't quite aware how hypocritical this viewpoint is in light of her Al Bhed prejudice.) Eventually, while working at a particular agency, she meets Alun.
Alun's an Al Bhed man, slightly older than she, who is fluent in Spiran and really likes his work. He and Maria have jobs that force them to interact with each other on a near daily basis, so against her will, Maria finds herself getting to know Alun. To her shock and incredulity, she also finds herself starting to like him.
Eventually, of course, they do fall in love and get married. And Maria gives birth to a boy whom they named Cihcreha - Al Bhed for 'sunshine'.
Cih is the main muse of this idea; he probably has a story all to himself, if only he'll tell me what it is. He has a gift for languages; he's fluent in Al Bhed, Spiran, Old Guado, and would probably learn the temple language pretty quickly if he had the chance. Despite his Al Bhed heritage, he is a technophobe, with a particular passionate hatred for guns. He also has a very peculiar disorder. Every so often, completely at random, his consciousness will sort of shift frequency; he will no longer be able to perceive Spira normally, as his senses have shifted and are now perceiving the Farplane.
Physically, his body is still firmly rooted in Spira, but his senses are picking up a completely different set of stimuli. If he presses his hand against a solid wall while having a spell, he will be unable to feel, see, or otherwise perceive the wall; it will seem to him that he's pressing his hand against thin air. He can feel that there's something preventing his hand from moving in that direction, and logically he'll be able to figure out it's a wall, but he doesn't see a wall. He sees, feels, hears, and smells the scents of the Farplane. (Theoretically he also tastes, but he's never quite been able to bring himself to test that.)
This makes his faily life occasionally quite a chore and basically means that he'll always have to have someone to look after him. Even simple tasks can be dangerous for him if he has a spell. Needless to say, he really resents this and hates the fact that he's so helpless. Other than that, though, he has a pretty happy life.
Oh, and regarding the adults again - Maria eventually forms her own blitz team, and Kei and Lune live quite a pleasant life together; Cihcreha loves visiting his two uncles. Between easygoing Kei and quirky Lune, they're a fun pair.
Wow, that was long-winded.
FF7, FF8, FF10, FFT, Ehrgeiz, Kingdom Hearts - The Cloud Crossover.
So, those are my epics. Which says nothing of all the little oneshots I want to write.
FFVI - Rules of War, a fun little pre-game Leo x Celes... this is part of a fictrade and someday I promise I'll write it. Basically, Celes and Leo have a petty little prank war. It's cute and silly and fun.
FFVI - Edgarfic for Ruin Year (ask me about it sometime). Angsty. Basically a portrait of Edgar as Gerad. Have a particularly nasty little idea for this one - Edgar broke his leg falling out of the Blackjack, and was so frantic to heal it that he didn't bother to set it correctly; thus, it healed wrong and now he limps.
FFVI - You know, I'm starting to think this is Edgar's antidote to the above. Pure Figaro-twins FLUFF. Would have to be a drabble, as it focuses exclusively on what young Edgar and Sabin always did on their birthday. <3 the Figaro twins.
FFVI - noticing a pattern? Edgar drabble, or at least short vignette - no, sorry, angsty again, but sweet. When he's had a bad day, has a great new idea for a machine that he wants to explain, or just wants to talk - Edgar talks to mirrors and pretends he's talking to Sabin. Not very often, just as a safety valve to keep himself from going insane from the combined stress of missing his twin and having to run Figaro. His retainers worry slightly about it, but since he seems otherwise stable, they're not too concerned.
FFVI - This is where Setzer starts hitting me over the head with ideas. At its heart a cute Edgar x Setzer fic, but also deeply involves Locke and Celes. Edgar has his hands full running Figaro after Kefka's defeat, and it's starting very slowly to drive him nuts. Setzer is very much not pleased with this and bitches about it to Sabin and Locke. Sabin has been noticing it too and is just as pissed as Setzer, and Locke hasn't really had time to visit Edgar but after hearing Setzer and Sabin bitch about what's happening, can't just sit still.
Probably Setzer comments, half serious, that he wants to just fly in on the Falcon and kidnap Edgar just so he'll have a vacation. Now, Locke's been in a slump recently; he and Celes are quasi-domesticated and he's not used to that. He wants to go out and have adventures again, but at the same time, his old idea of adventure kind of pales in comparison to having fought and defeated Kefka. So when Setzer suggests kidnapping Edgar, Locke perks up, and says "Well... why not?"
So. Setzer doesn't need all that much encouragement, and before long Locke and Celes are getting a crash course in piloting the Falcon and Sabin is waiting for zero hour, as they managed to convince him to stand in for Edgar for a while after they kidnap him. At some dramatic time, the Falcon swoops in, Setzer dashes in, grabs Edgar, and dramatically exits. And the Falcon is kept far, far away from wherever people might be looking for Edgar for about a week or two, during which time Locke, Celes, and Setzer do their level best to help Edgar relax. Eventually they return him to Figaro and all is well. This is actually a bit long for a oneshot, it'll probably be chaptered, but it's not quite an epic...
FFVI - Yes, more Setzer. This is exclusively his bunny. Basically, I saw this picture, saw the little "One Thousand Years Ago..." caption on the upper-left subpic (click on Setzer and Edgar in the main picture), and before I knew it, Setzer had a bunny ready and was doing everything short of streaking to get my attention. Sigh. I managed to dissuade him at one point by asking him whether he wanted Daryl or Edgar, which was enough of a stumper to make him go away.... but then he came back and said he wanted both.
So, if anybody has any information on the piloting of small planes, please share. I'm already researching private pilot's licenses.
FFVI - The Horrible Setzer Angst Fic. Fits into Ruin Year. Basically Setzer waking up after the crash of the Blackjack, and being horribly angsty. (He gave me this idea when I chanced to look at a picture of him while listening to the World of Ruin theme. He also abandoned it really fast. He's apparently really, really fickle.)
Setzer is one of my most overenthusiastic muses right now. It takes very, very little to convince him to breed a bunny. I think he's the one who's trying to give me that Au Palais De Verre AU (Au Palais De Verre is a vocal version of Matoya's Cave with French lyrics that tell a sort of galactic faerie tale, and can be found on the Final Fantasy: Pray CD - just to give you an idea of just how obscure and weird that is), although I think Celes is collaborating with him on that one.
Seth is, disappointingly, one of my less productive muses at the moment. Aerin and Zair are doing their best to make up for it, though. Seth is nothing to Cihcreha, however; I've done so little with Cih that I think he's up and moved to
exxiekins's head.
Cloud-chan is an erratic visitor, but she's terribly fun when she's around. (Yes, basically she's a female Cloud.) Cloud (normal version) is definitely a dominant muse these days, but I think Setzer's scared him. Zax likes to stick his head in every once in a while, and I do wish he'd do it more often.
And this all says nothing whatsoever about my original muses. I would need a whole other journal to wank about all the ideas Red gives me. I fully plan to write and publish his story - I love him and his supporting cast dearly, and I have so very much inspiration just for his biology (he's a vampire), and for the language of the sylvan elves, and to a lesser extent the savannan elves, and the culture of the dragons, and and and... I do love my urban fantasy story.
And then there's Sideris Filliae. Which is far beyond only my scope - which is why I'm so very glad I'm not the only one working on it. ::grin::
