TEETHS UPDATE

The teeths, they are taken.

I'm doing okay!

Among other things, today I came to realize I have a slight, irrational fear of anesthesia. It's pretty weird, actually, especially considering that I demand anesthesia over any potentially squicky procedure - I once had them put me under for a spinal tap, I'm that much of a wuss. But, it does seem to be true. I don't like the idea of going from full consciousness to OUT THERE without any control. I remember staring at the ceiling after they gave me the IV drugs, wondering what it was going to feel like as I lost my total alertness and went under.

... Yes, I'm sure this is why they give you nitrous oxide first. But I'm even MORE disturbed by the thought of inhaling something that is going to change the way I function, so I asked them to leave that off. At least with a needle I can cope. I wasn't exactly terrified, just... really didn't like it.

Whatever they gave me was fantastic, though. I think there may've been a couple times when I was vaguely aware that there was something going on in my mouth that was hurting? But it was like it was miles away. I may be scared of getting anesthesia, but I sure do appreciate it once I've got it.

I'm rather less appreciative when the painkillers and unconsciousness go away well before the dizziness that prevents me from being able to stand, walk, move, or ingest anything for fear of becoming promptly ill. Boy howdy was there a lot of throwing up. But I did finally sleep off the last of it.

I asked to keep the teeth, and damn are they really kind of ugly. But they're my wisdom teeth, it counts for something.

I am in PAIN PAIN PAIN, but it's kind of dull and ignorable when I don't actually move my jaw or swallow; this is going to be tricky when I start requiring sustenance, but hey! I've got etodolac and Vicodin. If it gets unbearable, I can make like House.

Thanks for everyone's well-wishes, I am quite all right (if owie) and rather glad the worst is over. Bean, sadly I didn't get your advice in time; I'm puffed up like a friggin' balloon. I'll just have to cope.

But, yes, the epic saga of Lyssie's Wisdom Tooth Removal draws to a close! Now the epic saga of Lyssie's Recovery From Her Wisdom Tooth Removal begins. XD

Whew! Good to hear everything went okay. I had to watch a short video about the process beforehand, and of course there are a dozen things that could go wrong. D:

They let my sister keep her teeth, but not me :( She got hers done somewhere else, though.

I've been anesthetized twice, and I don't remember falling asleep, or even getting drowsy, for either time. I just lay there IV'd, wondering when the drugs were going to kick in, and the next thing I knew, surgery's over and I'm in the recovery room.

...Sustenance? I hope you like applesauce and milkshakes! I was too tired to be hungry for a while.

Ice cream! Whenever I pulled teeth out, the dentist would always suggest ice cream.

I've never had a full out anesthetic shot - all the surgeries I've had involved local anesthesia, so I'd only lie there feeling something vaguely poking inside my breast or something... it was disturbing x_O

I can't imagine how I'd keep from swallowing for any extended period of time. Somehow keeping from doing it as much as possible sounds like the hardest part of your recovery XD;; hope you recover soon!

Congrats on getting it though! When I got mine out in December, I did nothing but watch Disney movies for four days. IT HELPS FOR THE PAIN.

Congrats on getting them out. Drink milkshakes. That's what I did when I got mine out. Lots and lots of milkshakes.

And I completely know where you're coming from with the anesthesia. Even though I want it, I sob when I come out. That loss of time was one of the freakiest things I'd ever experienced. At least you have Vicodin though. I didn't get anything other than antibiotics, so I had to make due with the painkillers I already had (which were good, but not as good).
