also the hair springs are lolarious
Oh my god, I'm... I'm having so much fun.
It's like it's tapping into everything I loved about the first game. Phoenix is doing that thing again where I'll think something and then he'll say it. I MISSED that, more than I'd realized. And when I figured out the bit with his fingerprints it was like playing the first game all over again - it was an actual LOGICAL deduction that made sense, and I felt a sense of real accomplishment when I figured it out! I don't know if I had a really good "--OH!! That's it!" moment all through JfA, so it was really exciting to have that happen again at last.
And the setup of this case? Holy fucking shit. After two full games of murder cases, and a murder case right before this, you might worry that a robbery case would be boring by comparison, but NO. The case is genuinely interesting, and fun, and that twist was actually a TWIST. I knew something was wrong when Atmey broke down - I still had a whole court record full of unused evidence, and it had gone so fast, and it was so easy - but... even with the setup so far, I had absolutely no idea that Ron was going to go batshit on me and confess. So here's Phoenix, his case is pretty much in the bag, he flew through in fine form and without any deus ex mentors to feed him obvious hints, he went through this all on his own skill and intelligence*, and there is possibly not a single person in the court who believes that Ron is or could be guilty... except Ron.
This case is FABULOUS. I am so full of love.
* This is also something I'm thrilled to death by. Before this, at least in JfA, I kind of felt that the game design wasn't quite in line with the idea that Phoenix is actually a very good lawyer - it felt like he was fumbling through more on blind luck and annoyingly cryptic hints from Mia, than by his own actual ability. But in this case, I really do sense that he's genuinely skilled and is using that skill. I find him a lot more credible as the "Ace Attorney" he's supposed to be, and that only makes me love him all the more. ♥
Edit: Oh, THERE'S the body. I'm disappointed, but also strangely relieved. XD
NICE fakeout with the happy lounge scene, though. Yay! You won! Let's everyone gather around and celebrate, and comfort Ron for his delusions having been shatterrrrwait what about a murder?
That's an awesomely nasty little twist, too. Ow, poor Phoenix. Even if I'm a little sad that our robbery case turned into a murder after all, I'm more than willing to forgive because it was just too cool how that happened.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THIS CASE. I CAN'T PREDICT ANYTHING. THIS IS AWESOME. ♥

Yeah, pretty much. XD
PS - I was playing at lunchtime at a Starbucks drinking coffee while watching Godot drink coffee and it all got a little surreal.

The Japanese DS cart is dual-language and was released in August. I asked for it as payment for a commission I did for some friends of mine. ♥
