Yule drabbles - first set
Oh, it's good to shake out the writing muscles. ♥
Here's the first three Yule request drabbles! It's not Yule yet, but there's nothing wrong with an early present. :D :D
For
fel, Kairi messing around with Riku's hair
-
It's been a silly, naughty little idea of hers for years, its roots reaching almost as far back as the day two little boys came to the mayor's house to meet her. It was just such pretty hair for a boy, and it always looked so fine and soft and nice, like spun silver - and Kairi's fingers always itched to play with pretty things. But Riku was always so aloof, and she'd always had that newcomer feeling no matter how welcome he and Sora made her, so she'd always set the thought wistfully aside.
But she's not a newcomer anymore - this is her home, no matter that she was born a dozen stars away - and Riku's never so distant any more. Besides, if he's going to be falling asleep with his head on her thighs, his hair spilled across her lap... well, if he didn't want to wake up with braids then he shouldn't have done that, should he?
For
nekokoban, SoRiKai on a new and different world
-
"Leave it alone, Sora."
"Do I have to?"
"I'm pretty sure you'd be breaking interworld travel laws by taking it, so yes."
"Besides, it looks like it belongs to someone, it's awfully tame."
"No, that's probably because he's feeding it. From our field rations."
"Still, it's not skittish at all..."
"Come on, you guys. Look at that little face. Riku, look at him."
"Forget it, Sora."
"But if he is tame, he won't be safe out here in the woods."
"He seems to be managing."
"Well, I don't care. He's coming with us until we get to the town. C'mere, little gu--"
By the time the electricity had died down and Riku and Kairi had blinked all the spots out of their eyes, the rat had made a clean getaway, leaving Sora still crouched in the clearing, hands stiffly outstretched, and his hair looking even more ridiculous than usual.
"... Well, at least we don't have to worry," Kairi said, diplomatically.
Sora coughed and fell over.
For
sister_coyote, SoRiKai, leap
-
She knows this too well, this reaching, stretching over a yawning chasm to catch a hand - as close as they three are, they have always stood on treacherous ground. Darkness found a crack, split it wide as the sky to carry them apart, and she and Sora have been working so long and so hard to close that gulf again. Once, twice, three times they've caught Riku's hand and dragged him just a little closer, just a little: once across a stolen heart, once across a borrowed face, and once before he could try to flee again, and he's almost there, now, almost there, he just needs to make the leap--
Come, she urges him, heart open as her arms, come here, Riku, and he's warm against the two of them but rigid, shy and flighty like a little rabbit and he will deny himself everything until they can make him understand, and it's enough to make Kairi want to cry for him but all she can do is pull and pull and pull, he's close enough that his breath is hot on her skin but his heart's still so far away.
Kairi has had enough of this.
She shifts, face pressing close to Sora's, and curls her hand at the base of Riku's skull and pulls him close
(like when his hand was too big in hers and it didn't matter, all she had to do was bridge that gap and hold him steady until Sora could catch him too)
and their lips touch, the three of them, and Riku goes all stiff like he's ready to run, but then something loosens in his shoulders or maybe his heart
(there is nothing as beautiful as a leap of faith)
and she feels the moment when he touches ground, a tiny little change like the click of a lock, and that's when she knows he's finally home.
... I swear I didn't deliberately select the SoRiKai prompts first. XD
