I sort of had an awful day yesterday, and I have a lot of writing to do today that I really don't want to do. T_T Distract me, flist!
It's time for another round of the "Give me a character and I will tell you five things about them from my personal headcanon" meme. 8D Any fandom I'm into is fine; and this time, if I have no headcanon for the character you ask about, I'll try and make up at least one thing for you. ♥

1. Privately, he actually likes the dark powers he still has; he's very wary of feeling too much affection for the darkness, but... it still strongly appeals to him that he can use the darkness to shield his friends from harm, and being able to smell their hearts is deeply comforting to him - he can always be assured that they're nearby, and safe.
Also, dark fire is handy.
2. As much as he likes to be near Sora and Kairi, Riku has sort of mentally written himself out of the trio. After everything he's done, it's hard for him to believe he still has an equal place with them.
3. Calling himself "Ansem" was, more than self-punishment and a sign of resolve, an attack against Xehanort's Heartless itself - by forcing himself to identify with that name and form, he lessened his own fear, and in so doing, his vulnerability. It was a strategy to deny Ansem any foothold in his heart to gain power again. It seemed to work.
4. Riku's mother made him that wooden sword after he came to her fearing monsters, and told him it would keep him safe. As a child, he believed in that as much as he believed the tide would roll in. He never quite shook it; even at Hollow Bastion, under all the hatred he'd cultivated, there was a wide-eyed little child inside who believed that Sora would still be okay, as long as he held on to that toy sword.
5. It is almost physically impossible for Riku to top. This will not be a permanent state of affairs, if Sora has anything to say about it, but he has so much leftover guilt, and is so terrified of causing harm, that for a long time he just will not be able to top. Someday he'll get better.
