9. Ash/Misty (Pokemon)

THREE SHIPS I'VE NEVER LIKED:

10. Squall/Rinoa (FF8)
11. Phoenix/Maya (Phoenix Wright)
12. Cloud/Aerith (FF7)

TWO SHIPS THAT HAVE PIQUED MY INTEREST:

13. Phoenix/Iris (Phoenix Wright)
14. Billy Katagiri/Graham Acre (Gundam 00)

QUESTIONS:

1. Why do you dislike #11 so much?

Because they're siblings, siblings, siblings. Canon drops anvil-sized clues that their relationship is purely one of family, and as a family they're heartstoppingly wonderful and perfect. And it's really amazing to me that they've forged such a close, loving family relationship despite NOT being related - family bonds are unlike any other and not to be taken lightly, and these two form a very tight sibling bond when they don't have to, because that's how much they love each other in that powerful, platonic way.

My automatic assumption when I see Phoenix/Maya shipping is that either these people don't have siblings, or just can't comprehend a pair of male and female leads who aren't romantic.

THEY'RE THE BEST FAMILY EVER SERIOUSLY GUYS THEY ARE NOT FOR SEX

2. Who do you know that ships #13?

A few people~ [livejournal.com profile] musouka_manga, [livejournal.com profile] akatokuro? Though only in the canon's past, when it was actually happening.

3. What would be your ideal scenario for couple #3?

Lots of piratey asskicking - he joins up with her on one of her stints away from the throne and they run around killing monsters and plundering booty and having hot sex in her cabin.

4. What is your favorite moment for #1?

... ALL THREE GAMES. No, seriously, I can't pick one, when the whole of their relationship and dynamic is so wonderful to me.

A few favorites:

- The end of 1-5, presenting evidence to Edgeworth.
- This line from JfA: "No matter how desperate the situation... instead of giving up like most people, that man would hold strong with his undying faith. And then, before I knew it... I began to trust in that man as well."
- Everything Edgeworth said or did in 3-5. Okay, fine, specifically his "secret", his conversation with Phoenix in the garden, and that fantastic cornered moment in court.

5. How long have you been following couple #6?

About halfway through Princess Tutu. Somehow, I saw the hints they were dropping, and just assumed that that couldn't be what they were doing - because their friendship was so interesting? because the series was so good at bucking my expectations? I don't know. But by the ending episodes they hit me like a FREIGHT TRAIN OF LUUUUUUUURVE.

6. What's the story with #8? What made you stop caring?

Honestly, I was never really that attached in the first place - I saw it, it was interesting, it was amazingly gay, but it just didn't hold my attention. Then fandom got insane and I just could not give a shit.

7. Which ship do you prefer--#2 or #4?

I HAVE TO CHOOSE?

Well, if I MUST... Zack/Aerith. Both characters are well-painted, it's canon, I've been following it for years since I first realized it was there, it proved to be almost exactly the way I pictured it, and I love how well they balance each other with their different kinds of strength.

(I do love player!Dawn/Pearl just for the fact that it's all the best points of rivalshipping, it's terribly cute, and it's really gratifying to have my avatar in a game get such a cool, respectful relationship of friendly equals.)

8. You have the power to make one ship non-existent. Choose from #10 or #12.

Squall/Rinoa, no contest. Cloud/Aerith I can see, under the right circumstances, and I don't have any particular antipathy towards it (even if I ship Zack/Aerith and Cloud/Tifa like BURNING). Squall/Rinoa's setup and themes just squick the everloving hell out of me, on top of being poorly executed and unconvincing, and both characters are so much more interesting and likable on their own anyway.

9. What interests you about #14?

Mainly the fact that, Lockon excepted, all the side/antagonist characters are more interesting than the pilots at this point. Graham's Gundam fetish is hilarious, and those two are just so married anyway.

10. When did you stop liking #7?

Ugh, years ago. I think it was a combination of realizing Sephiroth was basically asexual, realizing that Seph/Cloud fics never struck me as greatly in-character, and vastly preferring Cloud with Zack (and, later, Tifa). It's only gotten worse as AC and Kingdom Hearts have sapped away my interest in Sephiroth as a character.

11. Did your waning interest in #9 kill your interest in the series?

Oh hell no. I kept going as a Rocketshipper and Ash/Gary fan long after I fell out of love with Ash/Misty. XD

(Shameful secret time: I became SUCH a typical yaoi fanbrat back then, as soon as I discovered Ash/Gary. I don't think it was shipping Ash/Gary that made me decide Misty was a hellbeast, though... I think that was more just Misty being a hellbeast. XD)

12. What's a song that reminds you of #5?

There... there are none. This saddens me but it's true. Well, I guess Eternity ~ Memory of Lightwaves does, but only because it reminds me of the game, which reminds me of them.

13. Which of these ships do you love the most right now?

Phoenix/Edgeworth, because it's my NEW BELOVED FANDOM right now and the shine hasn't come off yet - I don't expect it will for a long time, because they're just so good. Everything about their relationship is so powerful and beautiful.

14. Which do you dislike the most?

Oh man, I'm torn between Squall/Rinoa and Phoenix/Maya. They both horrify me on thematic levels, albeit very different ones. (one is creepy YOU HAVE NO FREE WILL, the other is creepy BUT THEY'RE FAMILY!)

15. If you could have any of these pairings double date, who would they be?

Oh godddddd hahahahaha. Let's go with Phoenix/Edgeworth and Fakir/Ahiru, mainly because the whole situation would embarrass and bewilder Edgeworth on so many levels.

16. Have #2 kissed yet? Elaborate if yes.

I think they have? I expect they would have anyway, they're canon. Sadly, any onscreen kisses would have been in Crisis Core and I don't have that!

17. Did #4 have a happy ending? Do you think one is likely?

Haven't finished yet, but since it's A POKEMON GAME I think the answer is pretty much yes. They're painted throughout the game as being such good friends, and he looks up to her so much, I can't see them being anything BUT adorable and happy in the end.

18. What would make you start shipping #14?

More screentime and character development I guess.

19. If only one could happen, which would you prefer--#2 or #6?

... w-why

but

they're my two most treasured canon het ships

;_;

Zack/Aerith escapes complete horrible soul-crushing tragedy only because they died so close together in time and can be happily reunited in the Lifestream. The last we see of Fakir/Ahiru has the two of them pretty much physically unable to carry on a relationship with each other, though the love probably still exists.

I GUESS I'd have to say Fakir/Ahiru because they're already a bit doomed and at peace with it; Zack and Aerith just have to have their happy afterlife or there is no justice whatsoever.

20. You have the power to decide the fate of #10. What happens to them?

It turns out Rinoa accidentally and unknowingly cast a love spell on Squall; when she finds out, she takes it off in horror and it turns out Squall's not interested at all. But because he's not really a horrible person and the events of the game opened him up somewhat, he feels bad for her obvious misery and the relationship ends on a sad but amicable and mutually respectful note. Then they both go off and lead their own separate and interesting lives and maybe keep in touch as friends and there's always a wistful note of nostalgia but they both know things are Better This Way. And they're happy.

In regards to pairing 10/question 8: Every time I play the game, I wonder why they didn't stick with Squall/Quistis. It's there, it's cute, and inevitably he ends up with Rinoa anyway, who doesn't even fit into the plot as they set it up. Which isn't to say that I hate her as a character, they could have done things, but gaaaaah. He doesn't even like her until she goes into a coma, at which point it's "she shut up! Oh my god, she's not talking! I--I love her!"

Seifer/Rinoa would've been much more interesting, in my mind.

This looks so fun. Also I have procrastinating to do. 8D.

OH MY GOD #4 ♥♥♥♥♥♥

I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS THIS WAY YAAAAAAY although I think that Dawn is really slashable with ANYONE, really (I mean, she puts the spark back into the eighth gym leader's life! d'aaaaw). BUT DAWN/PEARL ♥ I also have a weak spot for Dawn/Cynthia and Leaf/Gary - I mean, the last one I just see as REALLY CUTE because I can picture Gary trying his best to beat Leaf at everything but falls second to her and--- going to stop babbling now).

[identity profile] trenchkamen.livejournal.com 2007-12-04 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
So, I'm not the only person who thought Squall/Rinoa was a little forced?

Ganking.

[identity profile] teal-deer.livejournal.com 2007-12-04 08:36 am (UTC)(link)
... I think it'd be even more amusing if the double date had Ahiru in duck-form.

"I thought this was a double date...?"

"... this um. ... is my date..."

"Qua! :D "

Edgeworth: o______________o
Phoenix: O___________________________O;

Fakir: NOT THAT WAY
Ahiru: Qua?

It's only gotten worse as AC and Kingdom Hearts have sapped away my interest in Sephiroth as a character.

Not that I ever shipped anything involving Sephiroth, but... yeah. He's not a character, he wasn't even built as a character; from the get go he was supposed to be an ideal gone wrong, and while I understand that the ficcers want to give him a personality and redemption, they just... go about it the wrong way. They try to turn him into a socially-maladjusted woobie, then try to shoehorn cutelittleearnestbullied!Cloud or excitedpuppy!Zack into a romance with him, and it just ends up either with Seph as uber-seme and Cloud/Zack as uber-uke, or with a hate-lust-hate relationship involving lots of arguing and angry sex. And let me tell you, I may accept or even appreciate the former sometimes, but absolutely can't stand the latter.

/rant

Also, oh. Oh, Fakir/Ahiru. In my mindverse, they reincarnate as a happy couple. Wether a human or a duck couple, I don't care. (Also, in my mindscape Ahiru is actually a swan. Because of the ugly duckling tale, you know :DDDD)

[identity profile] aidara.livejournal.com 2007-12-04 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
*cheers for Fakir/Ahiru* Ahaha, Freight Train of Love is right on.

[identity profile] vanilleon.livejournal.com 2007-12-05 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
Ahaha, fun stuff. I would totally steal this meme, but I can't think of enough ships to fill in the blanks. (Clearly this means I need to play more games.)

You're so right about Sephiroth. I fangirled over him endlessly when FFVII first came out (and oh, how I missed Sephiroth No Oukoku when it shut down). But after a while I realized that he's... just... a photogenic plot element. He's attractive, but in a way that says, "My character designers set out to build a bishounen." The interesting personality associated with him is based more on the collective fan work than on the game itself, I think.

I still like him, but... yeah. He's fun to draw, and that's about it.

P.S. I must investigate this "Princess Tutu" thing that people keep talking about.

P.P.S. Bartz/Faris heck yeah.

[identity profile] vanilleon.livejournal.com 2007-12-06 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he does have some excellent potential. Maybe an improved translation would have brought out some more character depth? It's one of the reasons I'm still hoping for a remake. :D (Also, more backstory in Crisis Core = yay.)

Just watched the first episode of Princess Tutu on Veoh. ♥ Consider me thoroughly intrigued! Thanks. ^^ I've gotten used to watching things online, but a torrent link would be great.

Acting like a person is good. :D Definitely looking forward to seeing how that turns out.

Yay, thanks~ ♥
