blah blah blah laptop blah blah blah Disney

As might be indicated by my previous post, I have a laptop.

He is a black Toshiba Satellite and his name is Fakir. I love him dearly and he's almost ready for me to use; he just needs iTunes, my music, my artwork, and Creative Suite. Vista is pissing me off, but I'm learning to get around it; I think I found a way to save files where I want them to be saved, so that's nice. If I can make that work, and turn off the resource-draining OMGSHOPRETTY visual style, I think we'll be in business. He's a fine laptop to take to Disney. :D

So with that taken care of, and as I start thinking about what else to pack, I've decided I need to get together a Stupid Little Things Bag.

You know the little necessities around the house, the ones that seem so trivial and useless until you need one and don't have any? Stupid little things.

So far, I've planned for:

  • Pens/pencils
  • Pocketknife (knife, scissors, file, screwdriver tip, tweezers, toothpick)
  • Matches
  • Calculator
  • Tissues
  • Batteries
  • Measuring tape
  • Nail clippers
  • Rubber bands
  • Paper clips
  • Staples

Any other ideas?

Tape.

You never realize how much you need it until you don't have it.

Bandages and other first-aid things.

I'm assuming this is going to be a checked bag? Now might be a good time to brush up on airline regulations about what you can and cannot bring on board.

Ooh, if it's an apartment Stupid Little Things Bag, add in a basic toolbox, too. Or at least a flathead screwdriver, a few screws, a boxcutter, some twine, and a hammer.

And a flashlight. I'll shut up now. :3

Post-its and scrap paper/notebooks. CD-Rs?

And the first-aid stuff is seconded. I ALWAYS run out of band-aids.

SEWING STUFF. You'll rip something and be like "Oh, let me get my sewing kit ou---DAMMIT I DON'T HAVE ONE HERE >_<", and you have to go buy one XD

You can't have matches there XD. Well, I guess you could have them, but you're not allowed to light fires like candles and whatnot :(

I couldn't live that long XD. You should have seen how exicted I was when my roomates were sad they couldn't light the birthday candles on another roomate's cake. I was like "!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I KNOW HOW WITHOUT MATCHES! *rolls up sheet of paper and rubs it against stove top until fire shows up* SEE? FIRE! :D :D :D"

Have I ever mentioned I light matches and then blow them out for funsies? XD

Ribbons or string. I saved the strings from balloons and gifts and such because I didn't have anything else to use. Ribbons are useful for gifts even without wrapping paper, and string can fix stuff, and...sometimes you just need to tie things to other things.

uhh.... spare toothbrushes? Hairbands? I've never traveled far enough to care about minutiae...

Also, if you can fix Vista to look like an actual computer OS, you might want to try out windowblinds to make it look prettier. Window's default themes tend to burn one's eyes, and even in my new-albeit-inferior computer this program barely uses any memory.

It's a program that allows you to set/make custom skins in windows, with special effects and different settings. The taskbar in my favorite skin, for example, is narrower, the buttons are smaller, and it's also a little transparent, letting the wallpaper be seen through lightly. Windowblinds skins tend to have more pleasant color schemes, too; muted and without that horrible metallic sheen/glare. There are even custom movies/gifs, like the one that shows up when you're moving folders and emptying the recycle bin, and they're generally better than the standard ones.

Someday I want to make a custom windowblinds skin as well, but it must take an insane ammount of work.

Toilet paper and paper towels. Baby wipes if you're the sort that likes to feel clean.

Hammer, screwdriver, nails.

I can't contact you on AIM...
