[Fic] "Silver"

Just a quick ficbit to maintain my sanity. (Argh, schoolbeast eating me alive D:) No promises as to quality. XD;

Some slight final-dungeon spoilers, but you might have to squint to see them.

Title: Silver
Words: 362
Rating: G
Summary: Riku's harder to find than Sora thought.

It's been more than a year since he's seen Riku.

That's counting the time he spent asleep, admittedly, but it still holds, and makes things a little difficult. It's not that he's forgotten his friend, never that; but Riku's face in his memory has gone a little fuzzy at the edges, and that itself wouldn't be so bad, except - except - he remembers how his knees stuck out when his jumpsuit used to cover them, and the first time he looked in a mirror he'd been startled at the face he saw. A year was a long time.

And Riku was older than he was. He'd always been a step further along.

So - just in case, if we go to all these worlds and nobody's seen him and because you never know who'll pass you in a crowd - when he scans populated areas for familiar faces, he tries carefully not to look for the exact one he remembers, looks instead for a certain kind of walk, swaying silver hair, a general sense of Riku-ness.

What makes this so frustrating is the fact that Riku-ness seems to be more common than he thought.

His head jerks after a swaggering flash in the crowd, only to find disappointment when he sees that the hair he'd sworn was bone-white was a pale shade of blonde. The first time he sees Xemnas, there's a sick hope in his heart - small, and quickly killed. When he meets Twilight Town's gambler hero, he sees him first from the back, and his spirits soar. The name is past his lips before the man turns to face him with a crisscrossed face too old and tan, and blankly inquisitive violet eyes.

Fuu is almost enough to make him think the worlds are playing a joke on him.

But he never lets himself give up or stop looking - it's Riku, and Riku is worth any amount of wrong guesses and false starts if they can just get it together in the end.

Maybe it's a little ironic that when he finally does find Riku, the other boy doesn't match his memory at all (or rather, he does, but the wrong parts of it) or even quite what he was looking for, but Sora's too happy to care.

(And, hey. He wasn't totally off-track after all.)

D'awwwwww~ *pet-loves Sora*

It reminded me of that small chat I had with someone regarding why Sora responded the way he did when Kairi hugged him, since it was made clear throughout the game that until TWTNW, he enivisioned her as her KH1 self.

Haha you make me want to wriiitteee. ♥

Ooh, nice. ♥ ♥

There are an awful lot of silver-or-white-haired people around, aren't there? Poor Sora probably thought that Riku's hair color, at least, was fairly distinctive...

That was a twist of ow and giggle and I fully aprove, :D

and, oh, i understand the school eating part, even though i slack off more than most, ;_; when i write, i write my novel for creative writing, and nothing else because i'm so far behind, and the lack of fic hurts!
