It's good to see some positive change is happening. The energy in the air over here in Oakland is magical. A town with a large black population? You better believe my coworkers were crying when the results were announced.
On a bitter note, Prop 8 seems to be headed towards an inevitable pass here in California. I'm trying to remain optimistic seeing as we went from 60%/40% in 2000 to a clean split this year, but I get depressed when I think of one thing: California gave all people the right to marry, and then because of people being close-minded or simply ill-informed, that right is more than likely being taken away. That, somehow, seems more tragic than any slap in the face that marriage "protection" amendments gave in the past.
But like I said, remaining optimistic. For gays and allies, today is not our day, but Obama--a great man (also: a black man with a fucking ridiculous non-white name wtf awesome) with the potential to do much good--was elected today. And our generation of young voters voted against Prop 8 with a near-70% rate.
So yeah. "Protect" marriage. Delay equality one day longer. This is only the beginning.

YES WE CAN.
