I was thinking of something really eloquent to say. About this election, about Obama, about my mixed feelings of incredible joy at the overwhelming Democratic victory and crushing despair at the evident pass of Prop 102 here in Arizona, the sheer strangeness of having hope at all when the last eight years have made me from a naive girl into a very cynical woman, and about my flickerings of new resolve.
But I apparently don't think well when tipsy. Mom and I had a drink to celebrate. We got some Cosmopolitan mix out of the freezer, got down the martini glasses, and had a toast.
(The glasses are cobalt blue. I think that's an amusing bit of serendipity.)
We toasted President Obama and the next four years. And I'm a damned lightweight and I'm already feeling a little woozy and drunk, so the most eloquent thing I think I can say is:
Yes.

levade's observation that. it's. probably satire. XD OPTIMISM HAS NOTABLY INCREASED.

If citizen refuses such screening, they will be ineligable for marriage and referred to the Ministry of Gender for gender restoration.
That sounds very scary and oppressive :/

It's terrifying and appalling and how hard is it to see that it's totalitarian and evil?
Also, I love the part where if ANOTHER citizen contests your gender, YOU have to pay for the screening. And apparently just refusing the screening - maybe because, say, THE CONTEST WAS INVALID - means you don't count and don't get to marry! :Db

They win either way. Man, I love this world we live in.

or, as Tanz so helpfully pointed out below, it's actually some rather clever satire... XD

Are you sure that's not a joke site of some kind? Because this. And most serious sites don't use terms like destructive gay energy.

On a bitter note, Prop 8 seems to be headed towards an inevitable pass here in California. I'm trying to remain optimistic seeing as we went from 60%/40% in 2000 to a clean split this year, but I get depressed when I think of one thing: California gave all people the right to marry, and then because of people being close-minded or simply ill-informed, that right is more than likely being taken away. That, somehow, seems more tragic than any slap in the face that marriage "protection" amendments gave in the past.
But like I said, remaining optimistic. For gays and allies, today is not our day, but Obama--a great man (also: a black man with a fucking ridiculous non-white name wtf awesome) with the potential to do much good--was elected today. And our generation of young voters voted against Prop 8 with a near-70% rate.
So yeah. "Protect" marriage. Delay equality one day longer. This is only the beginning.
YES WE CAN.

Nothing looks half so impossible on this side of the election, with Barack Obama on his way to the White House. We did that. What else can we achieve together?
I know I'm seriously thinking about doing some volunteering for the Human Rights Campaign. It's difficult for me because I'm broke and I don't drive, but goddammit, a grassroots campaign elected Barack Obama. I can find some damn way to give the HRC my time.

I know what you mean, though. It's pretty serious mood whiplash between "WE CAN HAS OBAMA" and "fuck you, Arizona" here.
