I was thinking of something really eloquent to say. About this election, about Obama, about my mixed feelings of incredible joy at the overwhelming Democratic victory and crushing despair at the evident pass of Prop 102 here in Arizona, the sheer strangeness of having hope at all when the last eight years have made me from a naive girl into a very cynical woman, and about my flickerings of new resolve.

But I apparently don't think well when tipsy. Mom and I had a drink to celebrate. We got some Cosmopolitan mix out of the freezer, got down the martini glasses, and had a toast.

(The glasses are cobalt blue. I think that's an amusing bit of serendipity.)

We toasted President Obama and the next four years. And I'm a damned lightweight and I'm already feeling a little woozy and drunk, so the most eloquent thing I think I can say is:

Yes.

the bit about the creepy gender definition amendment thing is gone, upon [livejournal.com profile] levade's observation that. it's. probably satire. XD OPTIMISM HAS NOTABLY INCREASED.

Yeah, the night was going awesome until I heard a lot of the same sex marriage proposals that are going on, especially in California, are being voted down. This really needs to be on a federal level >:|

That Gender Definition Amendment is just wrong on so many levels.

It is something in the lines of declaring the mentally retarded are sub-human, though soe long-winded reasoning I won't subject you to.

If citizen refuses such screening, they will be ineligable for marriage and referred to the Ministry of Gender for gender restoration.

That sounds very scary and oppressive :/

It's not right, targetting a specific group of people with mental disorders. It'd be something if people who received gender reassignment surgery did it for chuckles and grins, but this is just wrong.

They win either way. Man, I love this world we live in.

Oh, you do have an interesting point there. I wonder if it'll end up applying to them as well, or if they're not going to deny that this is only about anti-GLBT legislature.

That we fell for it and are not surprised at that kind of ignorance is not a good sign either :P

Are you sure that's not a joke site of some kind? Because this. And most serious sites don't use terms like destructive gay energy.

I WAS CONVINCED AT FIRST TOO but then I kept looking at it and got less and less D: and more and more "wtf, is this for real." I. I REALLY HOPE IT ISN'T REAL FOR ARIZONA'S SAKE. But most of it looks like the kind of thing the Supreme Court would slap down anyway.

It's good to see some positive change is happening. The energy in the air over here in Oakland is magical. A town with a large black population? You better believe my coworkers were crying when the results were announced.

On a bitter note, Prop 8 seems to be headed towards an inevitable pass here in California. I'm trying to remain optimistic seeing as we went from 60%/40% in 2000 to a clean split this year, but I get depressed when I think of one thing: California gave all people the right to marry, and then because of people being close-minded or simply ill-informed, that right is more than likely being taken away. That, somehow, seems more tragic than any slap in the face that marriage "protection" amendments gave in the past.

But like I said, remaining optimistic. For gays and allies, today is not our day, but Obama--a great man (also: a black man with a fucking ridiculous non-white name wtf awesome) with the potential to do much good--was elected today. And our generation of young voters voted against Prop 8 with a near-70% rate.

So yeah. "Protect" marriage. Delay equality one day longer. This is only the beginning.

YES WE CAN.

Propositions like that are just the screams of a dying dinosaur. It's destructive, yes, and appalling, but its days are numbered. And now they know it.

*hugs* Stay strong.

Damn straight they can't.

I'll join you in the 'fuck you, Arizona' if you'll join me in a 'fuck you, Florida' >( I am SO not happy about that Amendment 2 bullshit passing.
