white_aster. [1/26/04, 11:30 PM: fargnax, how on earth was I sick enough to not realize that I did the LJ user code wrong? Sorry, Aster. ^_^;;]
1) Do you have a theme to your writing? If so, what is it, and give any thoughts you'd like to share on why you like that theme.
The one thing that I've written about in nearly every single major writing project I have ever done is resurrection. I'm slightly embarrassed by it; it's something I have literally written about my entire life. I have stories from when I was eight where the main character was poisoned or crushed to death, but came back through the magic of some Fantastic Mystical Artifact that was nearly always based on some trinket of my mom's that I'd found. So I kind of have doubts and second thoughts about writing about it in my current fiction, because it seems like childish denial of the finality of death to me. On the other hand, however, I can't seem to stop writing about it. I couldn't say why, but it fascinates me. Maybe it's because it's Dramatic, or because I'm interested by the idea of a second chance like that... I don't really know.
2) What's your favorite type of character in stories? The confident type? The innocent type? The crazy one? Give examples.
The well-written type. ::laughs:: Seriously... I'm not sure. I'm bad at picking favorites. I think it's a toss-up between the complete and utter badasses and the happy cheerful people who are capable of dealing with major trauma and coming out more or less okay.
3) What's the last book that you read, and was it worth the paper it's printed on?
The last one I read to completion? Thief of Time, by Terry Pratchett. The author's name alone should answer the second part of the question, but I'll just say: yes. ::g::
4) What's the BEST book that you've read?
Goddammit, Aster. ::laughs:: I honestly couldn't tell you. I've read a lot of good books, but I wouldn't put any of them completely above the rest. Some of my favorites in recent memory are Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett, Pyramid Scheme by someone whose name I've forgotten, and the Firebringer trilogy by Meredith Ann Pierce.
5) What was your first fandom? Are you still involved in it? Was it a brief, torrid love affair, a steady relationship, or maybe one of those drunken one-nighters that make you go "Oh my GOD what was I thinking?"
Well, let's see... I've technically been writing fanfiction since I was a wee tiny tot, but the first real fandom I was involved in... I'm not sure, it was either South Park or Creatures. Both of them I'm quite out of now; but they were both pretty steady relationships. That was back when I got INVOLVED in fandoms, so I was pretty into them both. Met some really good people in both, who I still keep touch with today. :)
