So, apparently, it has been declared National Good Old Fic Day*. :D

The first fic that came to my mind was Sunshine in Winter, which I pimp now without hesitation.

I think this is the fic that made me love Yuffie x Vincent. Guardian is an excellent writer, with a firm grasp of characterization. She makes you hurt for Yuffie, she gets you all emotionally invested and hurts you in the very best of ways, before pulling off an incredibly satisfying ending. And the romance doesn't monopolize the fic. It comes across as a consequence of the story, rather than its driving force. Which is definitely nice.

(This is also the fic that taught me that apples and cinnamon make for a good medicine. So, you know.)

Oh, and then there's Here I Am. Big points for really nice details on how big a mess Midgar was after Meteor, double points for writing Vincent with a spine, and extra points for great Cid/Vincent interaction. This is the high-water mark in Cid x Vincent fandom.

* Rules: Go track down one story to be your Good Old Fic, one that you enjoy and think more people should see. It must be over a year old, and it must be written by somebody other than you. Then link to it, and explain why you've chosen it. It doesn't have to be the author's best work, or your favorite anything -- just a story that's been around for a while and that you enjoy.
