Jul. 23rd, 2008 07:00 pmI had a weird dream last night.
It... had something to do with an apocalypse by flood, I think. (It's hard to find a throughline in my dreams, sometimes, with all the weird fannish "I play too many videogames" stuff scattered throughout.) The world wasn't over - a surprising amount of civilization had survived, there were at least some working computers/electronics, and there were still people - but there was a sense in the dream that quite a lot had been washed away.
The people who'd survived the flood were... changed, I guess. It seemed that we were now living more or less indefinitely, with very little maintenance required. I think that was what made it really feel like an apocalypse and not just a big disaster; something about the world had fundamentally changed. Still, it didn't really feel destructive. Just sort of quiet...
Before I woke up was, I think, the only time I played myself in the dream. I was talking to someone, apparently about the possibility of getting the breast reduction I want in the new, post-apocalyptic world - the response was something like "what, are you crazy?" and going on to inform me that I'd want to hold onto any little "quirks" (because having a huge rack is a "quirk", I guess). Presumably, this was because human development was now stagnated, and with our very long lifespans in front of us, we'd need anything we could get to break the monotony...
I can't decide of the overall feel of the dream was more bleak or reassuring. It felt kind of sad and quiet in the dream, but we were still around, there were still families living together, happy to have survived together. And while it wasn't necessarily a very rosy one, we were at least guaranteed a safe future. I was sort of sad when I woke up from that.
Man, I dunno. That was weird.
