Interests meme
Gacked from
skinship upon her long-awaited return to the world of interweb. ♥
Look at your LJ "interests" list. If you have fewer than 50 interests, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five interests, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five interests, pick every tenth one. If you have fewer than ten, pick all of 'em. List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly what it is about these things that interests you so much.
after the plague: After the Plague is a MUD that
murasakiiro dragged me into. ♥ Mainly what interests me is the fairly intuitive play - if you think a command will work, it probably will - and playing with Jenn. (On which note, WE SHOULD PLAY AGAIN. Aikolera is probably getting restless...) And I've done more actual roleplaying there than I ever did when I played Medievia. Aiko's actually got some character behind her. <3
binturongs: They're FUZZY. ♥♥♥ More specifically, they're big fuzzy arboreal animals with long, prehensile tails. They're also known as bearcats, which is a pretty apt descriptor. They mostly eat fruit and greatly favor bananas, and are easily domesticated and make great pets if you don't mind the special treatment they need (for one thing, you need to build a nice enclosure they can climb in). They are positively ADORABLE and I luff them. You can read some more about binturongs here. ♥
dance dance revolution: ... it's fun, it has cool music, and there's shiny flashing arrows? XD I dunno. Dude, it's DDR. (I miscounted and thought crossplay would be the next interest. Curses. ;_; I might've had something to actually say about that one)
dreams: 'Cos... well, pretty much all of us (with some exceptions) have them, they make wonderfully interesting, or at least WTF-ishly funny stories to tell your friends if you remember them when you wake up, and occasionally they're genuinely important... I've had precognitive dreams before, and while I can't be entirely sure, I think it's just possible I've had the chance to connect with dead relatives through them. I won't rant on too much longer on this one, but if you're curious, feel free to ask. :)
ffx: Oh, man. First off, it was my first PS2 game. And I maintain that it's an amazing game on its own merits - I don't care what anyone says, I LIKED Tidus. His reactions and difficulties and everything made SENSE considering his life and what had happened to him. And Yuna turned out to be my all-time favorite FF heroine - I thought she seemed so bland at first, and I didn't want to like her, but then when you get to Bevelle she suddenly revealed just how strong she could be, and stayed that way for the rest of the game... Man, I love her. And Auron was just.... Auron. He's such an incredible character. And the world of Spira is just so rich, so fully built, so realized, I just... I love it. It's so great.
genderbending: .... ehehe. XD; First off, I would like to note that I actually meant this in the context of fandom genderbending. Like "what would happen if X was the opposite sex/what would X look like as the opposite sex?" I agree with
nekokoban that it can really be terribly interesting in an AU to just swap the protagonist or some other character's sex, and then see what's different afterwards from that one thing. It makes for fascinating "what if"s. ... For my part, though, I mainly just draw it, as a sort of challenge. "How can I take this character, and change their sex, and still make it recognizably them? This character is so strongly masculine, how would he look as a girl? This character is so strongly feminine, how would she look as a guy? Can I do this?" It's a fun little exercise.
knives: I have a strange fascination with weapons. Specifically blades. I'm not sure why - I'm probably way too squeamish to use them, I'm definitely not a serial killer in waiting, and even if I did use a weapon I'd probably prefer something blunt like a warhammer. But nice blades - not like utility knives or kitchen knives or survival knives, none of that modern stuff - but older weapons, like daggers and swords and polearms... They have a hypnotic fascination for me. I have a katana on my wall and it's beautiful. I want to get a wakizashi to keep it company, if I can find one that matches. I'm on a search for my ideal of the perfect kriss dagger (damn near impossible! I have a very specific preference for the blade shape, it can't be too thick or too thin or too wavy or too flat, and I favor simple, elegant hilts to those godawful hilts you typically see on ornamental daggers, where they feel obliged to encrust the thing with as much carving and decoration as they can. as you can imagine, this makes it very difficult. if I find the right hilt, it's the wrong blade, and if I find the right blade, it's got a hilt of, like, Isis with scarabs...). I drool over a good dagger, I admire a set of shuriken, I pine after the naginata in the local knife shop, and a well-made rapier makes me fluttery. I've never been able to describe why. Maybe it's the shininess of the blade, maybe I like the blend of graceful aesthetic and killing power... I don't know. I just really, really like bladed weapons.
ninja: ... Does this even need explanation? It's ninja, dude.
pirates: Jack Sparrow. XD
sharp pointy stabby things: See above rant about knives, only add the mental image of me jumping up and down and squealing. XD
tidus: ...Okay, so let's go into more detail on Tidus. For one thing, I like how up until him, every FF hero was a soldier or an armed wanderer or a thief or a stranded orphan or, you know, whatever, already used to fighting... and then we have Tidus, who is a sports star with groupies. XD And then despite a good chance for his fame to go to his head, he's a sweetheart, nice to everyone and friendly to his fans. He was endearing from the start. Yes, his "I HATE MY FATHER RRRR >:E" act was tiring after a while, and maybe he did whine a bit. But I maintain that he had every reason in the world to do so. He was leading a peaceful, happy life as an athlete in a world that he was well accustomed to, and then in one night everything gets turned upside-down, he finds himself fighting monsters and the elements to survive in an abandoned temple, is kidnapped by strange people, and finds out that he's in a world where his city is a relic of the ancient past and oh, by the way, this world gets the shit beaten out of it on a regular basis by a malevolent force of nature. That's not even counting when he finds out what Yuna's pilgrimage entailed, or his huge personal revelation. Considering all that, I say the kid did damn good, yo. All in all, he's just... I like him. I really do.
webcomics: They entertain me, and they're easy to sit and read and read and read, and easy to find more of. There's a lot of potential in the medium, and you can really find some amazing stuff. :3
....
You know what, no matter HOW many times I count off my interests I can't seem to get them to line up right and I get different ones EVERY time I count. So I don't even care if I've gotten the correct interests above, I've written all that and it's staying, dammit. XD
For a bonus, though, just 'cause:
zax: Because he is the single most underloved character in FF7 in proportion to his role in the story. To know him is basically to love him, he's such an outstanding character, and his role in the story was crucial and pivotal, but there are rabid FF7 players in the world who don't know who he is. There are Aerith cosplayers in the world who don't know who he is, and that is a travesty. He got only five minutes of screentime in the game total, if that, and closer to 30 seconds if you don't count the Nibelheim basement flashback. But in that time you're able to get most of his character - he's endlessly optimistic, incredibly loyal, stubborn, cocky, easygoing, but perfectly capable of being serious. He was Cloud's best friend, he endured five years in a giant test tube alongside Cloud, he broke them out and dragged Cloud's catatonic ass halfway across the world, and died protecting him. And his death had such a profound effect on Cloud... He was one of the most important people in Cloud's life, if not THE most important, and without him the story would have ended up someplace entirely different.
And that's only half the story... he was also Aerith's first boyfriend, and though we never got to see them together, just going from their characters it's not hard to guess they would have been the cutest couple ever. The Before Crisis trailer (which I think is just footage from what became the OVA) reveals that he made some kind of promise with Aerith just before he left on his last mission. Then, without ever being able to communicate to her what had happened, or to apologize, or just to say goodbye, he vanished and Aerith would never get to see him again because he died trying to get back to her. He vanished out of her life for five years, and even after that it's evident in the game that he wanted to return to her. She plays it off light whenever it comes up in the game, trying to act like it's not such a big deal, but it's obvious that she was hurt by his disappearance... she never got any closure. And hell, it's canon that she can tell when certain people die, she knew when Elmyra's husband had died, it's not such a far stretch to think she might've heard from the Planet when Zax died. Five years not hearing from him, not knowing where he was, but maybe still hoping, and then he died.
Zax was devoted and loyal and strong and all those wonderful things, he was an intensely good person who got completely FUCKED by life, he was massively, incredibly important to both Cloud and Aerith, and half of the story of FF7 itself depends on him.
And half the fandom has no fucking clue who he is.
Whew. ♥

Sing it, sister!
I've played FFX on Aino's PS2 (I just got Rikku to join me, yay!), and I love that dorky boy, too. And the dubbed voice is awesome. Actually, so far? I've loved all the voice actors. Only Yuna's sounds kind of awkward at times.
Don't even get me started on Wakka, ya? Because he and Lulu just totally pwn me now. XD

Yuna's voice is rather awkward throughout the first game; it seems like the actress was trying to match her speech patterns too exactly to the original. XD But then, Yuna is kind of awkward in the first game until about Bevelle, so hey. ♥
