Whooo

AND ON A DISTINCTLY LESS ANGSTY NOTE!

I can't wait until [livejournal.com profile] jawzdharken can break away and come watch the AC-ness with me. The fangasming MUST BE SHARED. 8D

It's a very good time to be an FF7 fan, really. Advent Children will be officially hitting the shore before too long, Last Order probably won't but it's floating around out there, Before Crisis is rumored to be coming over sometime in 2006-2008, Dirge of Cerberus looks badass (and has Reeve - I don't even care about Vincent at this point, I just wanna jump Reeve XD), and Crisis Core remains a fascinating enigma. Then there's the Ultimania guide, and that supplementary writing...

I still think it's all kind of excessive, but it's a very small part of my brain that's saying that. The rest of it is taken up screaming about how fucking awesome Advent Children is and how great it is to see Zax kicking ass in anime form and how utterly shiny Before Crisis looks. XD After having seen AC, I'm a lot less leery about the rest of the Compilation - I had my doubts about it right up to the wire, but despite the shaky plot it turned out to be a truly worthy sequel. Hell, maybe even because of the shaky plot. XD

It's been a real trip, these past couple years, watching AC slowly develop. I was so suspicious of it at first. The scans were fucking gorgeous, sure, but I couldn't help a slightly snarly, possessive MY FANDOM NO TOUCHIE reaction. I couldn't decide whether I liked the idea or not.

As time went by, I warmed up to it, of course. Whitney and I speculated so much about who would be in it, not ever really seriously expecting that we would be right. "Wouldn't it be awesome if Vincent were in it? Or Yuffie?" we said. "Yeah, but they probably won't be," we said. And then they were.

Same thing with the Turks. We dreamed of seeing Reno and Rude in gorgeous full rendering, but were sure it would only be a dream... then I saw that first magazine scan with the red ponytail and the bald head and had to call Whitney at 2:00 in the morning to share the joy.

And of course, I had fond desires of seeing Zax, but even with the track record so far, I wasn't going to pin my hopes on it. And then, yes, even my beloved, unknown SOLDIER boy got his chance to shine.

Almost every dream we had for this movie came beautifully, gloriously true. Vincent was there and was a badass, Yuffie was there and adorable, the Turks stole the fucking show, Zax got about thirty seconds total screentime but that's okay, and hell, my OTP even got some exposure. And all in the most amazing 3D animation since ever.

It's been a weird, long, slow paradigm shift from only knowing these characters as Lego people and 1997 FMVs, and having no expectation of ever seeing them as anything more. I'll love the Lego people until the day I die, but I can't deny that Advent Children was some tasty, tasty candy.

I should actually write a reaction/review of AC. I did for Last Order, I don't know why AC is being neglected. Ah, well, it can wait until Whitney and I have watched it and my memory is refreshed. :D
