Hell yeah. And by the way- your icon wins. And by wins, I mean... well, I don't know what I mean, but it does.

I think FF7 has one of the most dysfunctional fandoms outside of.. hum, well, Harry Potter Fullmetal Alchemist or My Little Pony.

My god, I've never heard of that. That's it, the fandom must be HIGH. That's the only explanation I can think of. I left the FMA fandom ages ago because it got too... hum, elitist, I guess. I mean, the anime's okay and all, but it really pisses me off when people go batshit whenever someone says it's not the greatest they've ever seen. Harry Potter will forever rule as the king of dysfunctional fandom, though I can't exactly say Rowling didn't deserve it. While many people are spazzing about book 6 (and for good reason- it certainly wasn't the best written one, though it's for understandable reasons), everyone else seems to be going bonkers over the interview (bolded 'cuz I can). Poor Ron gets no love.

As for My Little Pony... There are apparently these forums where rabid collectors go. Many of them completely spazz out when a new one's released because they feel as though their childhood's being raped or something. But the real kicker? Never, ever mention removing your pony from the box. I'm not kidding here. These guys are NRFB (never removed from box) fanatics! Apparently some people pay a lot of money for them. I can't see their worth for anything other than sentimental value, but who am I to judge? My sister and I were taking our youngest sis out to Toys R Us day before yesterday when we saw the My Little Pony section. We joked that we should remove them all from their boxes and post it online to see what would happen. But yeah, it's dysfunctional. Yikes. I'd post a link to some choice bits here, but I can't seem to find anything. It's only when you actually want it, isn't it? xD

That damn manipulate materia. It's one of the most evil things created, and I am amazed that it isn't as abused as it could be.

The Interview is possibly one of the dumbest things ever posted. Well, I say 'dumbest' in the fact that some of the stuff said should not have been said or at least published. Don't ask, don't tell, right? here's a link (http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/extras/aa-jointerview2.html). It's got a huge case of spoilers and the TLDR, but it's the stepping stone from most insanity henceforth. Though I'm sure you already knew of it =p

(sorry I took so long with this one- that link was, oddly enough, harder to find than I'd thought it would be.)

I'm sure JKR would be the first person to admit that she was wrong in her choice of words for some answers. Interviews are hard anyway, since you don't get much time to think before you answer- it's mostly on the fly, and if you take too much time thinking over a question, people take note. It looks like she and the whole interview staff have a case of the 'it seemed like a good idea at the time' mentality. Needless to say, the fandom has gone absolutely batshit after all that. In fact, it's still going batshit. People have gone so far as to rewrite book 6 online for Harry/Hermione content, and possible death of Ron- yes, they all hate him that much. Which makes me sad, because I love all the Weasleys =/

(And Right-o captain, we'll pretend I never said anything concerning that glowing orb of evil!)

That's exactly why I've made it a point to stay as fa~r away from that fandom as humanly possible. Just because half of the pairing you like ends up with someone else doesn't mean you have to hate the other person involved. I don't get why people get so worked up over this stuff. I mean, hello- books! Forget about that one, people? They're just missing the point. I'm not sure if these people are simple minded or what, but you can have ships that are contradicted by canon. For example, if Cloud/Aeris was made 'canon', I wouldn't be insanely upset. Disappointed, yes, but I wouldn't completely wig. I'd still ship my Cloud/Tifa and Zack/Aeris, and there's not a damn thing canon can do to change my mind!

(Though you know, using 'manipulate' to rob banks and stuff could be fun. Hum.)

It's funny, cuz some of the slashers are just as anal as the het...uh, ters. It's absolutely bizarre. I mean, seeing their self-proclaimed 'flame wars' is one of the most frustrating ways you can possibly use your time. They rant, rant, rant, and still never manage to get a point across excepting the fact that they've just made themselves look even more like a fangirl/boy than they already had before.

But regarding the FF stuff: it's funny, but there's that whole span of time while they're in SOLDIER that isn't witnessed, so a lot of people abuse the hell out of it- the basis for most Cloud, Zack, or Sephiroth oriented doujinshi out there ends up being in that small stretch of time. So there's your place in canon xD I don't mind it, personally. I happen to have quite a bit of Z/C doujinshi sitting on my computer- one of my favorite circles (I'm still not sure if it's a circle of psuedonym, actually) is Yubinbasya. Their artwork's just so damn pretty.

(Limit Quote Project? Mind elaborating? =p)
Bah. Anyway. Bed for me. Must sleep! Argh, sleep good!

[identity profile] melfra.livejournal.com 2005-12-26 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Awake now!

Bitching and whining about lack of canon is the most annoying type of bitching. There are more important things to get yourself worked up over, dammit! (to emphasize a point)

See, now that's cool. A lot of people that I've noticed actually write their whoooole relationship out, or argue that Zack and Aeris never actually had any kind of a relationship- that Aeris was mistaken or some other reasoning. While it might be somewhat blasphemous of me to say, I think some interesting stuff could be written during that time period. I mean, think about it- Zack is still technically involved with Aeris, but there's this potential for a taboo love affair. He just needs to be convinced. Of course, Cloud would have to be the agressor at this point, and we all know that's not going to happen!

As for Yubinbasya, I'll admit that I do like their artwork, but that's basically all I (can) like about them. I tried reading one of their books before, and it was actually pretty hard. Squicked easily, I guess. I've just collected cover artwork, actually. I'd kill for one of their artbooks. From what I hear, they do some het (pictures) too, sometimes. But when I look at some of their pictures of chicks, I can't help but see why they draw guys all the time =p That Strays doujinshi, though.. that sounds familiar.

(Hilarious! "I'm not taking it.")

The only thing I really canonwhore about is... well, mythology. But then again, I don't do fanworks based on it- it's learning the whole of the story! It's not like I ship Thor/Loki or anything like that xP (wait, that was completely off topic!)

Concerning pairings and stuff, though.. AU is a wonderful, wonderful thing. Some people can pull it off amazingly well. Though I will say that if I see another high school AU, I'll have to punch someone in the face. I mean, it wasn't all that great the first time, and it takes a special skill to pull something like that off well. The whole Zack meets Cloud meets Aeris thing sounds awesome though. If I'm a sucker for anything, it's that awesome plot device called romantic tension.

No one really wants to admit it ('cept a... select few >D), but Cloud really is kind of a wimp. Not in the physical sense, of course not! But mentally he's almost too unstable (at least at all the points canon covers, until arguably the end of AC) to be the agressor in most any relationship. I don't mean this in a bad way- I love Cloud to death. He's an awesome, complex character. But... hm, I get the impression that he doesn't know much of 'the world', if you know what I mean =p

Ever seen Yubinbasya draw girls? Yikes! Their artwork seems to be hit or miss in many cases- they get it right, or it gets screwed up. I've actually seen some drawings where Aeris seems to have breasts on her stomach (see like here! (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/melfra/f1a6a799.jpg)).

(ze link, she does not work! I weep!)

I am completely incoherent. I accidentally slept until 1 ;.; Screw this, I'm getting an alarm clock, dammit!
