2005 in review

So, as I start typing this entry, there's an hour and a half left in 2005. (And I have no sparkling cider left, damn it. It doesn't seem like New Year's without sparkling cider.)

(Wait, scratch that, I just found a bottle. Okay, now it's New Year's.)

2005's been a pretty good year for me, really. I'll be sad to see it go.

Memes ganked from [livejournal.com profile] trenchkamen and [livejournal.com profile] teh_kittykat, respectively.

1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?
Used Adobe Illustrator, made a custom mood theme, began doing LiveJournal roleplay. Oh, yeah, and met Yoshitaka Amano.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't make any New Year's resolutions. I did belatedly keep one from 2004, though.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes, my grandmother.

5. What countries did you visit?
None. I still haven't left the country. XD

6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
Money. XD

7. What dates from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
March 25-27. AniZona, and meeting Amano-sensei.
May 31. That was when my gramma died.
December 9. My first Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Managing to, possibly for the first time in my life, move on from an unrequited crush. Also, finally getting motivated and finishing Blood of the Planet, biyatch! Writing Tantalos was pretty cool, too.

9. What was your biggest failure?
The one thing I've been seriously beating myself up about was being so short-tempered with my grandmother when I was bathing her the Sunday before she died. That was the last time I really interacted with her, and knowing that my last real words to her were so sharp and impatient... it kind of hurts.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Of course I suffered illness... I had a case of the galloping cruds after AX, most notably. Antibiotics = ♥

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Paid time for [livejournal.com profile] gongaga_boy. I've certainly been getting some use out of it. XD Alternately, my fuzzy Alphonse pillow.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
I can't think of anyone specifically.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Much of mine, in retrospect.

14. Where did most of your money go?
AX, LJ, and Gaia.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Meeting Yoshitaka Amano. I MET YOSHITAKA AMANO!

16. What song will always remind you of 2005?
I still don't associate songs with years, really. This is a hard question for me anyway because when I do this meme, all I can think of is DCfC's The New Year. XD

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Happier, I think.
b) thinner or fatter? About the same, probably.
c) richer or poorer? Poorer. XD

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Writing. Drawing. Gaming. Doing things that could earn me cashmoneys.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Walking into the wall, as if that would magically make the light appear at the end of the tunnel.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I spent it at home with family - parents, sister, brother-in-law, niece, and nephew. We had ham and turkey and sweet potatoes, I lit my incense-burner-cum-chalice and put it on the table, and discussed with my sister her plans to get me drunk once I turn 21. It was fun and warm and pleasant, if loud due to the brat children. XD

22. Did you fall in love in 2005?
No, but I did manage to move on.

23. How many one-night stands?
I remain as pure and virginal as the new-fallen snow!

24. What was your favorite TV program?
I still don't watch TV, actually. XD

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nope.

26. What was the best book you read?
... I don't know, which is a sign that I did not read nearly enough.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I haven't really made any, to be honest.

28. What did you want and get?
iPod, to steal Lauren's answer. A Stikfa. Trans-Siberian Orchestra in concert. Final Fantasy Anthology. Tenshi no Tamago artbook.

29. What did you want and not get?
To see Death Cab for Cutie in concert when they came to Tempe (GOD DAMN IT). Shin-Ra card case. Zax figurine. Certain doujinshi.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Didn't watch enough movies to judge.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I had a tiny breakdown the night before, then went out with mom to buy Japanese sweets and videogames.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Seeing Death Cab for Cutie when they were playing in Tempe (again, GOD DAMN IT).

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?
"Fashion?"

34. What kept you sane?
My friends, of course.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
None? XD

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Stealing Lauren's answer again. Gay marriage.

37. Who did you miss?
[livejournal.com profile] jawzdharken. OMG WE R BAD STALKURZ. I'd go randomly appear at her house if we didn't owe each other a showing of Advent Children. XD

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Yoshitaka Amano. Not that it was exactly a personal meeting or anything, but I met him. And he is my god of art. XD

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005.
Optimism is beautiful, hope is necessary, and it's always important to look at the stars - but it hurts your neck to look too long, and you need to watch where you're going, too.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year: Sorry, I really can't.

Go to your LJ Calendar and find the first entry for each month of 2005. Post the first line (or such) of it in your journal, and that's your "Year In Review"...

Dec- At the library this evening-

Interesting... XD

35 minutes to midnight. People are letting off screamers outside. I'm going to pour myself some cider and get ready to go outside and see 2005 off. Goodbye, '05. You were good to me, and I'll try to use what I've learned from you to make '06 even better.
