ARGH!
....yeah, so. After putting myself in the mood for some Kingdom Hearts by drooling over lots and lots of KH2 propaganda and other assorted goodies, I start the game up to lay some smackdown on Sephiroth; before I start playing, I see the gauge on the side of the load screen telling me that both my PS2 memcards are totally clogged with data.
Okay, think I, it's high time I cleared them out. I'll do that first.
And I do. One memcard is deliciously almost empty, and the other - the one with all my KH and FFX data - is at least marginally less choked than it was. Satisfied, I go to play Kingdom Hearts.
Only to find that I obviously wasn't paying enough attention to what, precisely, I was deleting. Included in the purge were what I had thought were excess KH savefiles. On close, repeated, frantic inspection of the KH load screen, I find that I have somehow managed to carelessly delete the one savefile I have with all the extra bosses defeated, Sephiroth smacked down, all worlds locked, Ultima Weapon synthesized, and Sora at level 80-some. Which took hours and hours of playing like a crack addict to get all the obscure little items I needed for synthesis, and was the only save file I possessed in which I had a prayer of standing up to Sephiroth.
Oops.
...I need an "argh" icon. >_<
On a less frustrating note, meme gacked from
lipstickcat.
1. What did you do in 2003 that you'd never done before? Attended college, and took a formal Japanese course. Got a 4.0 GPA (!!!). Wrote a piece of fanfic that I feel stuck to the original tone of the series. Attended an anime convention. Petted stingrays and nurse shark, and touched a sea urchin and a sea anemone. More, I'm sure, but I can't think of anything.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? "So this is the new year, and I have no resolutions; it's self-assigned penance for problems with easy solutions..."
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? No.
4. Did anyone close to you die? Again, no and thank bless for that.
5. What countries did you visit? None. ::cries::
6. What would you like to have in 2004 that you lacked in 2003? Greater peace of mind. I'm working hard to shake all my horrible twitching little phobias and nasty little inner voices that tell me I'm not good enough.
7. What date from 2003 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? Not a date, but a week, starting July 2. My mom provided me and several of my friends with a ride to Anime Expo. In that week, I got to meet
kupoke, spend time at the beach, see and touch several really cool marine animals at the Aquarium of the Pacific, and generally relax in Cali in the best vacation week of my life so far.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Either graduating high school, making a 4.0 GPA in my first semester of college, or actually more or less sticking to my workout program.
9. What was your biggest failure? I can't honestly think of any major failures.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Nothing so significant; maybe a cold or two.
11. What was the best thing you bought? Oh, heavens. If I had to choose, I'd probably say the first volume of FAKE. Not because of the volume itself, but because it got me into the fandom; being in the FAKE fandom has, I think, helped my ability to draw people and clothes realistically, and has helped my writing ability in some small way. Also, it's introduced me to some nifty people. :)
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
jawzdharken's - she's working so hard to come out on top of her senior year of high school, keep it up, hon! Also, my mother's; she's worked so hard to take care of my grandmother and keep everything together.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? I could say the world in general, but specifically, my grandmother's. It's not her fault, though, she suffered a stroke and it wrought havoc on her mind.
14. Where did most of your money go? Anime! ::laughs:: With Christmas gifts as a close second.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Going to Anime Expo, probably.
16. What song will always remind you of 2003? Songs don't generally remind me of years. I imagine if I had to pick one, it'd be something from Suzanne Vega's Retrospective, or Death Cab for Cutie's Transatlanticism. ::shrugs::
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier. I'm not so paranoid and angsty any more.
ii. thinner or fatter? Thinner! Not much so, but thinner!
iii. richer or poorer? Slightly richer.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of? Hanging out with my school friends.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of? I'll steal
lipstickcat's answer and say 'procrastinating'.
20. How will you be spending Christmas? Another stolen answer. ::laughs:: Spent it with family.
22. Did you fall in love in 2003? No.
23. How many one-night stands? I am as pure and virginal as the new-fallen snow. ::laughs:: None at all.
24. What was your favorite TV program? Samurai Jack.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? No, not really.
26. What was the best book you read? Well, first I have to remember what I read this year... Pyramid Scheme or Earthgrip, or maybe Household Gods.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery? Death Cab for Cutie. I'd never heard of them before, but they have deep and thoughtful lyrics and a wonderful gentle sound that you'd never expect from their name.
28. What did you want and get? Good college grades, a chance to meet
kupoke, and assorted geeky stuff.
29. What did you want and not get? Mukan no Teioh (Uncrowned Emperor). I want that doujinshi SO BAD.
30. What was your favorite film of this year? Oh, I'd have to say Pirates of the Caribbean.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? 18. I went with a bunch of friends to see the Cowboy Bebop movie at the little one-screen theater in downtown Tempe, and then took most of them home for a party; the next morning, I went with
jawzdharken to Planet Neo and bought the first volume of FAKE.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Heavens, uh... well, it's not a thing, but it would have been very satisfying to figre out once and for all what the blinking neon heck my sexuality is.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2003? Pocket pants. ::g::
34. What kept you sane? My dear, dear friends. ^^
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? I tend not to fancy celebrities, honestly.
36. What political issue stirred you the most? The gay marriage issue, I think.
37. Who did you miss? My grandmother, the way she was before her stroke.
38. Who was the best new person you met? Hard to say.
libek and/or
skinship, I think.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2003. It's never quite as bad as you think it is. Just do your best and you'll survive.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year. .....None, actually.
