Located a full translation of Maiden Who Travels the Planet last night. Pretty much a direct translation and thus not the best writing in English, but understandable, at least. The chapter where she meets Zax is SO CUTE. He's still so in love with her. It's precious.
And in the end, where she's gathering the Lifestream and such to strengthen Holy, everyone she talked to in the Lifestream who wasn't a complete dick comes by and says something as this is going on...
And Zax is like "Hey Aerith, did you see Cloud's finishing move? That was one of my sword moves too! Doesn't it make you fall in love again? :D :D :D"
Zax is the dorkiest of the dork. How can you not love him? ♥

Maiden makes me a little sadfaced, because at one part the narrative is all "Yeah, Aerith was attracted to Cloud because of the Zax thing, but she ended up loving him much more than her first love!" and that just makes me go D: for Zax. HAHAHA I'M SUCH A FANGIRL.
But then, she's stuck in the Lifestream with him, and he is the Woobie Uberdork. I can't see it taking her too long to fall back in love. ;D

I liked it, but I thought it was SO OVERDRAMATIC at times. Like when Aeris is sinking. The moment is powerful because she looks so darn peaceful and calm, but in MWTTP she's like "I'm going away from Cloud!! ALAS AND WOE."
She didn't want to die, but I don't think Cloud was, like, the main reason. O_o;;
Zack was so wubdorkycool, though. I love the tale just for the Zackness. Them dragging Cloud to Mideel is total love, as is Aeris leaving him in "the hands of someone who can take good care of him" *a CloTi at heart*
I still wish the writer wasn't so melodramatic, though. Some scenes seemed just corny @_<;;

Also, it seems like in Maiden, she knew she was going to die, but the tragedy of her death in the game is that she didn't know. She did become a sacrifice, but she didn't know she was going to, she thought she would come back. So, yeah. Fanfic.
... The Zaxiness was dead on, though. And I can totally buy Aerith trying to talk to Cloud while he's in the Lifestream, and then guiding Tifa to him. Squee. ♥ Aerith/Tifa rivalry? What Aerith/Tifa rivalry?

I remember it pissed me off when I first read it, because it cheapens her death horribly, and it sort of spoiled the rest of the tale for me. I couldn't take it seriously anymore, and could barely enjoy the really good parts, like the Zackness and Clotiness. She was just... sorta Mary-sueish, and she wasn't like that in the game, at all.
And I'd like to know where some fans pull that rivalry thing out of, because it stinks :/ Tifa knew Aeris better than Cloud did!

Anyway. There were some cool points to Maiden. The Zaxiness, the Clotiness, and dude, Dyne. It warms my heart to see Dyne redeemed and getting to be with Eleanor again.

Make that both Tifa and Cloud. XD;; Except Cloud's are also oozing out of his pores.
And god, the miles are around AC. In-game, he's got like light-years to thread before he can even call himself "mentally healthy" again.
And yeah, Dyne. That was one part where I really, really wished the author was a little better at describing stuff (it was so good, but my nitpickness kept nagging XD;), but it might have been the translation. O_o The part where the little Eleanor sparkle floats over to him was just tear-worthy ;_;♥
I think the part where he kills himself was already redemption-worthy (I do wish it had been a little longer - it seems to happen so quickly in-game), so the lifestream scene is just an extra oomph. :D

(This is why I get so angry at people who dislike Tifa because she didn't just tell him the truth. SHE WAS ALMOST AS CONFUSED AS HE WAS!)
Yeah. ;_; ♥ Dyyyyne. Really, that poor guy. That Lifestream scene made me so happy.

Frankly, I just hate the people who WANT TO BELIEVE Cloud is a wangsty mass of nechrophiliac love and suicideness over Aeris' death. It's not even canon he loves her that way - you choose his date, and you can get Barret of all people! - and people want to make his story a hugeass romantic drama where he roams the world trying to find a way to bring her back, sobs at Ajit every night, writes
gothpoetry about her, stands on rooftops looking up to the moon just like Vincent's pic, then finds an old tome in Cosmo Canyon with a romantic voodoo, then goes in a romantic quest to ressurrect her in a romantic scene. Tifa may or may not act like a bitch throughout the story, but some condescendenting writers may write her as very sweet and helpful, adding a scene in the end where she admits Aeris is the one who can make Cloud happy, blesses them and disappears.I lost all hope on Cleris fics, sadly. Principally Aeris ressurection fics.
(And I think some people have such huge problems putting themselves in someone else's shoes that they instantly believe they'd do the right thing in her place. And what would the right thing be? Tell Cloud right off the bat that he wasn't at Nibelheim? Way to go, no hero, no game, no world saved.)

Seriously. Something I noticed, looking back at it... Cloud is able to hold it together only as long as he feels Tifa believes in him. He doesn't start breaking until he realizes that she doubts him.
There really wasn't a right thing to do. Confronting him too early, while he was still fragile might have helped, OR it might have screwed him up even worse. That was a LONG SERIES OF MAJOR TRAUMAS he went through.
And really, I dare anyone - ANYONE - to be in that situation, where they're one of two survivors of a destroyed town and they're dead sure the other survivor wasn't there at the time, only to meet said other survivor and find that he remembers the same events, which shouldn't even be possible, but have nobody else to turn to about it, and handle it well. Tifa did the best she could with what she had.

He did all but shape his life around Tifa's recognition, after all.
Considering how messed up the whole thing was, Tifa ended up doing pretty well. She did bring Cloud back.
(And going to sleep!)

Can you fall in love with a person for one sentence? Because I just did. Zax is a terrible dork, but with lines like that, he's beyond cute.
That said, the Zax/Aeris fluff I promised you ages ago is just about done. ^^ Just thought you'd want to know.
