[Fic] Differing Tastes

... because [livejournal.com profile] nekokoban and I seem to have this perpetual-motion inspiration ping-pong game going. XD

Title: Differing Tastes
Words: 354
Rating: G
Summary: Roxas and Sora disagree on some very important things.

Riku had learned, when he had finally been able to emerge from the darkness and come home, to count his blessings. The beach was always there, the waves familiar and soothing; he still had a home he could go to; Mickey was always just a bottled letter away; most of all, Sora and Kairi still trusted him and wanted him around, and that was where he usually stopped counting, because nothing could bring any greater warmth or relief than that.

He rapped his knuckles twice on Sora's back door, his personal knock, and then let himself and Kairi in. Just knowing he still had the welcome to do that made him feel overwhelmed with gratitude, and he had a broad smile on his face as he stepped inside Sora's family's kitchen.

It quickly faded into a look of utter bewilderment.

The fridge was hanging open, gushing out cool air into the room as Sora gulped down milk directly from the jug. He was making urgent little noises as he drank, as if he had been lost in the deserts of Agrabah and his life depended on this milk.

"Sora?" Kairi asked, Riku still standing mute where he had opened his mouth to say something and found no words.

Sora put down the jug and gasped for air, turning wounded blue eyes on his two best friends. "Roxas," he mewled plaintively, "is trying to kill me."

Before anyone could say anything, in the blink of an eye Sora's entire manner changed. He set the milk down on the counter, rolling his eyes and giving Riku and Kairi a thoroughly unimpressed deadpan stare.

"He's being a baby," Roxas's voice said. "It wasn't even that hot."

And suddenly he dived for the milk again, taking another long frantic drink. "You put pepper all over it, you traitor!" he wailed when he came up for air.

Taken aback, Riku looked down at Kairi questioningly. She gave a helpless little shrug.

Riku decided to add to his list of blessings that, while his best friend had apparently gone insane, at least things weren't going to be boring around here.
