Yep, I've died a thousand fangirl deaths already.

It's apparently Square Enix's sole mission in life right now to make me die as many fangirl deaths as possible.

I mean, really. First they announce FF7: Advent Children. Then they get me drooling with some media and a tantalizing shot of Vincent. Then they confirm that yes, it is Vincent, and not only that, but Tifa, Reno, and Rude are in the movie too. Somewhere in there, they also release a whole bunch of interesting Kingdom Hearts 2 screens, and note that Auron is in KH2.

Then, as if that weren't enough, they announce FF7: Before Crisis - a prequel to FF7 which stars the Turks and appears to have a younger Reno as the main character.

There's a part of me that cries out in terror at Square Enix expanding the known universe of Final Fantasy VII, which was my introduction to the series and still my favorite, but a much larger part screams with unbridled joy. I just hope they handle my favorite world with tenderness and care.

And just for shits and giggles, I have composed a brief, vague, and very wanky plot speculation on Final Fantasy VII: Before Crisis.
