I give. I gave last night, actually. There was no way to get Gambino done for the Atomic Comics thing, it was insane to try. I'll just work over the weekend. Much less stressful. For Atomic Comics, I'll just put on Zax again - his costume may need touching up but it's not bad, and they're doing that "special presentation for Final Fantasy fans" at the Animefest, so what the hey. It's more appropriate to be Zax anyway. :D
This has been a good learning experience, though. I have learned:
- I can get a damn lot done when I'm motivated.
- However, the GO! FIGHT! FANTASTIC! attitude will not solve everything, and often leads to more stress. Which is not good.
- Make sure you have enough fabric before you reach the sewing stage. Because it totally sucks to realize that you are actually incapable of sewing your shirt because there is not enough cloth.
- No matter how much you want to Make It Yourself, sometimes it really is better to just go out and purchase a costume piece, then modify as necessary.
- Sharpies stain like whoa. (My arm is yellow! 8D)
- You cannot coat gauze with liquid latex.
- You can coat Scotch tape. However, using this to make a surface for the latex on your bracelets is not necessarily a good idea, even if it does work.
- Fucking impossible to get a bright enough gold on black latex, even if the site did say that was the best color for metallic effects.
- Ben Nye's prosthetic latex will not peel off the nose & scar wax. It will bond. (At least I have a backup nose. Not so much with the chin, though.)
- Sometimes you get better results from flying blind than from following the pattern.
I'm probably going to have to tweak and remake, like, half of his costume before AniZona. Gives me plenty of time to ask around on the cosplay.com forums about prosthetics, if nothing else.
... Now, I need to really quickly do a Photoshop assignment I totally forgot about, and find Zax's boots.
Edit: Fuck. I don't have a wig cap. Can I hit you up for a wig cap, Lauren? :D;
