someday I'll post something not a meme

skinship just looked too cool, though.

1. Alphonse Elric
Well, mainly because he's adorable. And I always found the concept of his character interesting. The cognitive dissonance in having this huge, spiky, scary suit of armor, and then a sweet, polite little boy's voice coming from inside it... and the very unique situation it puts him in, with the challenges unique to him and the abilities only he really has...
I just really loved his character a lot. ♥
2. Au Palais de Verre
So, there's this album, Final Fantasy: Pray. Track 8 on this album is Au Palais de Verre, a French vocal remix of Matoya's theme. The melody (which I'd never actually heard before) caught in my brain, as did the lyrics, and the translation just caught my imagination and wouldn't let go. The palace of glass! The prince traveling across the stars! The "galactic fairy tale" milieu just... stuck with me.
I actually tried to plot out a FF6 AU based on the characters and setting of Au Palais de Verre, which... mutated into my pan-FF pet plotbunny, where the planet Lerre was the original world that shattered in a Ragnarok battle into the various FF worlds. XD; It still failed at capturing what I thought was so AWESOME about that song, though, and will probably never be written due to being too epic for how obscure the idea is. XD;;; But I did get some characters out of it that I'm fond of, so that's something. (Even if some of them will never make sense in another context. D: OH, ARDEN, WHEN SHALL THE WORLD SEE YOUR GLORY?)
I just really love the story and the concepts of that song. I wish there was an anime of it or something.
It's a really good song! You should listen to it.
3. Binturongs
Hahaha, nothing terribly epic here. I just saw one for the first time at the San Diego Zoo, and my goodness they are adorable. They're big and poofy and puppy-eyed! And they eat bananas! And are docile and can be bred and domesticated. So cute. D: ♥
4. Elfquest
Oh man, my dad brought the first volume of this home from the library when I was a wee tot, and did it ever snag my interest. It rooted into my brain so thoroughly that I will probably NEVER forget it. I still remember more or less how Redmark became Redlance, and the story of Madcoil, and Blue Mountain, and and. Such is the strength of the impression it made that to this day, my primary association with elves is not Tolkien or Santa, but Elfquest.
The downside of this though is that because it was such an important childhood series, I... CAN'T look at fan anything for it. I'm reluctant to even go back and reread, for fear of jumbling up what it meant to me as a child.
5. L33t
... I just think it's amusing.
6. Pentacles
I flirted with Wicca and witchcraft some years ago. Ultimately, while I still find the religion and philosophy appealing, I decided I couldn't really commit to it. But some of it stuck with me, and I still have deep affection for the pentacle. It's a very visually appealing symbol, and I like the ideas of unity and protection it stands for. I have a pentacle necklace from Renfest (which was an adventure in itself, convincing my dad it wasn't a Satanic symbol), and I still like to wear or carry it with me when I travel. Just in case, you know.
7. Water
Nothing really fascinating. I love to swim, and with water being so scarce in the desert of course I'd be drawn to it. I just like the way it looks and feels, and I swear sometimes nothing tastes better than a nice cold glass of ice water.
